Lucas's Tacoma rebuild/overland project

You've really got stones to get started on a rebuild project like that! Right or wrong, I am enjoying the build thread. I have been doing a dual battery setup, but it is probably more involved than you are looking for, plus I still have to build in some overcharge protection for the yellow top. Keezer36 pointed you to my build thread already. If I was doing it all over, I'd get the National Luna system, or maybe the Hellroaring one. Mine works, but is not cost effective after having to locate an overcharge protection lockout circuit. That comes with some of the other offerings, but I only researched it enough to get buyers remorse on my Painless system. LOL.

BajaTaco's friend is Steve. A friend of mine as well, we've been on a few trips together...

You can find detailed writeups about his truck here on Baja's website.

RunAmok thanks for the link you dont have any contact email for steve do you? I can also write Baja taco. I am trying to source the hardwear he uses on his swing up bed and am having no luck. I think the idea is great and would love to get more info. The info on the demello sliders is also good I just am running into the problem of having them shipped which really looks as though my bank account wont thank me. But they look rock solid and are something I am seriously considering.

cheers

He posts there quite often. I'm sure he'd be happy to get you a parts list.

Have you been reading RoundOut's Aux Battery: http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8558&page=6?

Keezer I am checking Roundout's battery install now. Looks detailed and straightforward, I wish I had a fab guy to go to for these types of projects. I have limited welding equipment and very limited skill and would rather leave anything under the vehicle to the pro's. I think the idea of a air tank/battery setup would be great and I am toying with placement. I would like to save the area around the spare for my spare. But from what I am seeing most of you guys on the site here are using that space for a aux fuel tank, or water tank, or as in Roundout's post a air tank and battery. So much to think over. A roof basket would serve as a temporary place for a spare. But I am hesitant to do this as it would use up my roof space, which I use for fun gear such as my windsurf boards or mountain bike. As things stand now I do not have a swing out bumper or anywhere else to place my spare. And as it is a full size it takes up a good chunk of room. In the near future I will have to look into a rear bumper. I appreciate the links! Now all I need to do is start piecing together his list of fuse blocks and relays. I like the battery charge protection and the isolation of the "starter" battery. Should be a great setup if I can collect up the pieces. I will post it up once I get it together.

Hey thanks for the heads up 4Runamok. The video links off of Baja Taco's website are no longer working and so I am even more determined to track Steve down. I will get to work on a account on 4wdtrips. Cheers

Streaker your build has been one that I have kept an eye on. I am envious of the clean upgrades and well thought out progression of your build. I can only hope mine comes together so well.

Thanks man, just noticed your comment. Once I can afford it a front bumper and winch will be in order.:26_7_2:

Hey

Lucas,

I used to be up in your neck of the woods. I lived in Harvey and worked in Negaunee when Simmons Airlines (American Eagle) used to fly out of there before KI Sawyer closed down. Miss Da Yoopers eh!

This is a great forums with helpful people, can't wait to see what all you do with your Toy.

Ok thanks Roundout. I have been reading through your install and it looks really good. I am a bit hesitant to take it on because like you said it takes a toll on the checking account. I loved the wiring though. Shrink wrapped and all! Overall I would say a very good addition to your rig and I am working hard at pulling the parts and pieces together for mine. :Mechanic:

hey thanks Pete, good to hear of another person with some good memories from Da UP. I grew up here and have always enjoyed it. Although I also can't resist heading out to adventure in other areas. So far the forums have been amazing and of much help during my rebuild of the truck. Let me know if you are ever back up in the area we can get a cold one.

Not getting much work done!

Well instead of working on my truck bed/platform today. My girlfriend and I decided to head north and find some new areas for exploration. We had just gotten about 8 inches of powder and I finally warmed back up from what had been about our 15th day of -0 weather. So we are pretty happy to be out of work and out playing in the world! I thought I would post the pics in my build area so that I would be reminded to make it out of my garage again in the near future!:wings:

Wow, I can not believe how far you've come in such a short time!

It looks great!

FYI, the forum supports adding attachments to your messages in the full editor. Imageshack is riddled with spyware/adware/malware.

Thanks for the words and for the tip on photos. I am still a bit new to posting and am not sure what the "full editor" is? I am posting off of my comp and thought that in order to post them here I would need to have them hosted. Image shack sounds lame is there another to use that woudl be better? Thanks for the tip.

Photobucket is easy and is what I use and I know a lot of others use it too. There are several other kinds of sites that others use too.
