M100 Trailer starting point.

I sold my 1943 MBT Trailer and decided to use this M100 instead as my starting point. I would like to do an off road build but considering waiting and doing an M416 instead. My problem is having to change the axle to match the lug pattern and loosing the hand brake in the process. it is on g503 right now looking for a possible trade.

Maybe use a wheel adapter to retain the axle and match it to your jeep, while keeping your beloved hand brake. Or you can just use some chocks lol...

I have thought about wheel spacers, but I have hearda a lot of bad things about them on the freeway. Dont know if this is a valid concern or not. Also I want 33" tires on it and dont know if I want them to stick out that much farther. what size tires are others using?

Reasonable wheel spacers shouldn't be an issue on a trailer. On a steering axle they can cause trouble, but at the most on a trailer you *might* see slightly accelerated outer bearing wear. I kind of doubt it though, those bearings look to be pretty large considering the loads involved.

are electirc brakes worth the effort? I have 4 wheel disc brakes on my jeep and I can stop on a dime. when it was drums it would be an issue but with discs I dont know. What are the opinions out there?

If you aren't going to overload it then brakes aren't a must, but off road they can be very helpful when trying to go downhill at slow speeds.

how much are you paying for blasting? I have a possibility of being able to get one blasted for free if i do trade to a 416. I might just keep this one and buy a set of chaser fenders and that might just solve my problem. This one is in great shape and I would hate to let it go, but I am just sitting on the fence.

That would be the route I'd take... The only thing with the M416 is it has slightly more name-recognition, which might help with resale, but otherwise they are so similar. If you do the chaser fenders that solves a lot of problems and will look awesome.

There is a killer blasting place in Lindon called Dino's Sand Blasting. Small family business, they do great work and seem to charge pretty reasonable rates. It is $92 an hour but I have probably two dozen pieces. If lucky one hour of blasting, we'll see...

I cant rember what Utah law says, but in Virginia if it is over 3000lbs it needs electric brakes. I have 4 wheel disks too and with my M416 fully loaded I have never had a problem stopping it.

Some of my friends are asking why I am wasting my time building one of these because most of the places we go are one day trips or close enought to a base camp, but I guess I like the possibility of being able to have the option to go where I want when I want. Also I would like to have a tent off of the ground.

I now what you mean lol. Just tell you're friends it is great for trail cleanup days and trail maintenance. I use it to collect fire wood too. The XJ has allot of room in the back, but the trailer seriously expands you're possibilities. Especially if you need to transport bulky items or a generator. I guess I never really grew up and like to pull around my little red wagon

My brother in law said he knows you. He is in wasatch cruisers. I think he has some fj60 wheels you might like for your trailer...just a thought.

Yup he left me a message this morning. Cool.. We were discussing your trialers before I put 2 + 2 together when you were selling the other one. Small world indeed. I was excited to pick mine up tonight but it's snowing up here and I don't want to ruin all that purty nekid steel :)
