Tailgate replacement and DIY 90 degree modification.
I am sure someone has thought of this before. But, I had not seen it done.
The pervious owner had made this tailgate... I was able to order one on Ebay and once I got it installed I realized their was a way to hold the tailgate at 90 degrees.
To allow me to hold the tailgate at 90 degrees I lengthened the pins and drilled a hole in the tailgate to insert the pin. I was able to put the keyway slot in the top of the hole. This allows me to slide the pin in and when I lower the tail gate it locks in place. I had to lengthen the pins by 2 3/4" to ensure they stayed in place.
I did not want to dedicate my trailer to overlanding with a rack and roof top tent.
-So, my alternative is a Kodiak truck bed tent.
This tent is for a 8' truck bed and fits my M101A2 pretty good.
It has 5' of height inside and is 10' long (because of the tailgate being included).
The only thing I didn't like was the tent bow brackets that were c-clamped on the bed side.
I could take them off when not in use or leave them on. But, if I left them on they would rub a hole in the trap, I use to cover items in the bed.
I decided to recess the bow bracket into the bed rails.
