Hey there. 1st post for me in the group. I recently bought a 1967 Fayette M416 with the idea to build a trailer matching my Jeep. I have thought up a million things to do on this trailer but all in good time. For now I have decided to start with the axle in order to accommodate 37" tires. Is it necessary? Meh. Is it cool? Hell YES. But more importantly I have the ability to match my hubs to my Jeep JKU 5 on 5( a hard trailer hub size to find. Essentially I will be towing around spare hub, wheels, and tires. I think no maintenance, easy serviceability, and every parts house across town will have a Jeep hub if need be. I'm working on 3d printing a plug for the splines. Possibility of brakes or charging system using splines at a later date. 1 day at the local fab shop they waterjet and welded these up. Now to mock up axle width and height to match Jeep and fender height etc. add a 2x2 .0188 wall tube for an axle and for $500 with the hubs I don't think it can be beat unless you weld and do all that yourself.
I would love any feedback on this idea as I haven't seen anything like it other than an idea on ebay that used some sort of solid unit bearing off a minivan or something and I ran with that idea to have it match the Jeep
