Making a rear awning

Hello all,

We have a RTT that I want to fit so it opens out to the side of the discovery 2, but this leaves the rear door area uncovered (we have the sides for the RTT). We've used it over the rear door for a few years, but door hits the ladder when opening it and the unzipped inner side is not a great fit tbh.

I like the idea of the rear awning, but don't like the price (£450 for the Hannibal one over here) I'm sure I could make the rear frame, but just wondered if anyone had attempted to make one and would share their experience? Not so botherd about sides for it, just the fact the rear load area is sheltered when the door is open.

Is it possible without breaking the bank or should I just stump up the money and buy one?

Where there's a will there's a way.... I made one out of a used beach umbrella. Works well for minimal investment, is obviously not nearly as tough or streamlined as a legitimate $350+ awning would be, but it does keep me dry while cooking in most scenarios.

450 Pound sterling / $625USD is fing ridiculous.

I've been updating (in a desultory fashion) a topic on sewing my own awnings, it's quite easy.

And I just put one up on making your own adjustable poles.

And EvilDave(iirc, he of the '$50 dual battery how to' in the 12V section) has a swell design for a home-made vehicle mount awning system.
