Mancation to Indian Valley, PIC Intensive

Couple of weekends ago I got a call from my buddy asking to go camping with our rig. It just sort of happened that that weekend most of my friends were available to go as well.
Wife free, family free ( which we lover very much).
We decided to explore Indian Valley. Ive been there couple of times before. Its a real neat place to see what your rig can do. Nice windy trails, plenty of river crossings, some intense inclines/declines and everything in between.

So in total we had 4 cars. Me in my '98 Montero, '97 Tacoma, '89 Toyota and a 1995 Dodge Ram Diesel.
As we got an hour into the trail, my buddy’s Toyota decided to surprise us and blow its front axle. So in 2WD he barely made to camp. Luckily my he is always ready for whatever. So he had a spare axle in his truck along with all the necessary tools and a floor jack. (its obviously not his first rodeo).

We broke camp and decided to get it over with and replace the axle,,, at 12'oclock at night.

We lost one of the nuts for the upper knuckle in the leaves. So finished the Yota in the morning.

After a quick breakfast we went out to explore the area and experiment our rigs.

Now this was quite an experience for me.
As I was crossing the creek, everything was going well until I got caught up on some loose sand just kind of parked there. Yotas had to pull me out.

Engine kept running the entire time. All of the electronics were ok expect for the radio. The amp for the stock stereo was in the back so it took a dive. Oh well, it was time for that thing to go anyway.

Pull the interior when you got home? I've been close to that deep many times, and I've always been able to keep moving and keep water out of the interior. But I'm going to freak when it finally happens...

Good report!

yeah I pulled the carper out. I was planning on doin it anyway due to flooding w/ coolant from a busted heater core.
The carpet is now hanging on my fence.

Takes me back many years where ah guys rig was meant to be taken to its limits, though we did not enjoy such modern electronics as todays rigs, mostly 24 volt surplus jeeps we bought for $350, then drove the crap outta them. Did I ever tell you about the late night forray into a cannel we failed to "Check Depth First" before crossing?

At 16, we didn't know about snorkels? And current conditions (once in the cannel), and DUI, but hey? We were invincible right?

Today, we see great vehicles, but way less freedom and open lands in which to experience the goofy thrills we all once did so many years ago.

Those days, are diffinitly over. Glad you all had a great time out in them thar hills!
