Even though I have owned a MaxxFan for well over a year now, I am just finally getting around to installing it in my E250. I reviewed Toolman's installation of his roof fan, and think I am pretty good to go, but I still have a couple questions.
After I cut the hole with my air body saw, I plan on running a continuous bead of Dicor butyl seal tape around the opening, double layering (or more) in the ribbing low spots to make it all level. I will then screw down the MaxxFan, and apply a self leveling sealant around the edges and on top of the screws.
Once the sealant is cured, I plan to apply a layer of Eternabond roof seal tape (in black, as my van is black) spanning from the metal roof, over the mounting edge, screws and sealant, and onto the MaxxFan.
I think this should give me an extremely leak proof set up. Possibly a little overkill.
Questions:
1) What width of butyl tape would you guys recommend? I am thinking 3/4" or 1" would be best
2) How about sealant? Dicor seems to be well respected, I am looking at the Dicor 501 in gray.
3) Eternabond roof seal tape comes in 2" and 4" widths. Any input on which you think would be better? I am leaning towards 4"
4) Anything I may have overlooked?
Thanks for the input! Of course, I will post pictures once I actually tackle the install.
