Moab with a two year old?

We are planning a long road trip from the East Coast to the west coast sometime this spring, one of the main destinations is Moab Utah.
My question for anybody who has been there before is do you think it would be safe / comfortable for my 2 year old daughter to do some of the off-road trails there?
We will have another family with us in their own Jeep, both vehicles will be lifted on 35 inch tires.
Both drivers are relatively new to off roading so we will be using caution and taking the bypasses when necessary.

Any advice or opinions on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on what trails you want to do. I've taken my 2 year old daughter there twice. The first time we just did the White Rim Trail with zero issues, she even drove a bit. Second time we drove the White Rim Trail and Lockhart Basin Trail. It was a little bit different the second time because there was roughly 2" of snow on the trail. Those Moab rocks don't like the snow thus you tend to slip a lot more. Whenever I had a moment that seemed pretty unsafe I had my friends hold her while I got up the trail. You should have no issues at all.uploadfromtaptalk1453731776276.jpg

There are all kinds of levels of trails and if you ever get in a bad spot you can always turn around. The views will be great regardless of the trail difficulty!

When in the spring are you thinking about? The only time I really try to avoid it is during the Jeep Safari, too many people for me.

Another question to ask is how are you with exposure? Just noticing you are from the east, even on a trail like White Rim that might not be technically difficult, you definitely have spots with narrow roads and steep drops. Wife might want to walk the kid up those :)

Our 2 year old has been wheeling Moab trails since she was 3 months old (we've been blessed enough to live only 90 minutes away). Take it nice and slow, use common sense, and you shouldn't have any issues.

I have numerous friends who have taken their babies on trips to Moab and we will be going in May when our son is 4 months old, nothing really to plan for other than feeding and diaper schedules. Most important thing to consider is adequate head support/padding for the bouncing around on trails. And you will certainly be hating life with those stock gears and 35's in Moab.

It really depends on your kid. One of my girls is no issue in car trips, and loves wheelin. The other (almost 2)... well... just trying to drive the 12 hours TO Moab would be a quick trip to divorce land.

I'm planning to head this direction in early June.

I'll have 3 young kids + wife, so I would love to hears some ideas of places / activities to see/do with the kids. Mines, waterfalls, parks, hotsprings, etc.

Also, I'll be towing a camper trailer, so looking for suggestions for places nearby I can get electric & water hookups, leave day trips, and make it back at night.

WhiteH2O, thanks for the link. Nipple Creek sounds like a good place to check out!

For those with kids (and adults!) Moab has a great rec center in town. Big pool with a slide and diving boards. Of course showers as well, etc. We hit that most every trip and our 11yr old has a blast.

Fwiw, I worry more about my kids falling off a cliff than wheeling in Moab. I'd say keep her close when you are near exposure, have fun as its a wonderful place to make family memories.

I would probably hit Arches 1 day, Deadhorse/Island in the Sky one day, maybe do a side trip down to Needles. All easy to do as day trips from Moab. Sorry, can't help you with the RV parks. Run the "Moab Daily" if you'd like to do some rafting. Hit the hot springs in Glenwood if you are coming along I-70. Might depend on how young the kids are what you might want to do. Driving around and hitting the visitor centers and whatnot is cool, but a lot of the jeep tours/rafting/hiking that the area is known for they might need to be at least 4-5. Also assuming they probably wouldn't have a whole lot of fun biking very far in 90 deg weather.

Some kids can only take so much red rocks/amazing vistas/geology and driving around just to look at stuff, might depend on your kids. Just saying an idea might to be to add stops along the way of things to do and not spend tons of days just in Moab, could be boring for them after a couple days of red rocks :) The town itself continues to get touristy and after 2-3 days it's pretty easy to check the boxes on the normal stuff to see.
