My old 1998 Palomino Bronco just keeps handing me fun projects...

Three of the four corners have rotted out over the years. I just removed the camper from the truck and I see the fourth and last corner is rotted...

I started welding up some stainless steel to form a corner and tie everything together like I did on the passenger side. But then my TIG welder ran out of gas...Ugh!

Here is how I fixed the other corner:

I'll never buy a wood frame RV again....But then again, this one only cost me $1500 so I'm still way ahead for all the enjoyment and "projects" it's brought me!

Wood campers are fine, but they MUST be stored indoors, and you have to keep up on the calking, which always cracks... I have had much of the same fun with my old Hallmark, which has lived outside its whole life, and still does. Lots of places for water to wick in... I like the layout of my Hallmark better than any of the FWC units I've seen, but the wood construction will eventually be the death of it. :(

We only average 10" of rain here annually but I'm unaware of any wood rot on mine and it's a 2000. I do maintain the joints and live 5 miles from the ocean. Camper rarely comes off. I'm a believer in the aluminum sides. Not a fan of the fiberglass.
Lots of photos of FWC's with rot aside from the frame. Maintenance is the key.

Here's how I fixed it...

Had some stainless steel hanging around so with Plasma cutter and TIG welder I fabricated this corner...

This new corner was bolted to the TC with bolts through the sides where there was still solid wood

That square tube is for my dump hose and my cellular repeater mast sections

As you can see, the bracket is bolted to the side wall behind the tube....Strong Like Bull!
