mounting a awning with no roof rack?

Hi, have been lurking here for a while and decided to join! That being said I'm hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction.

I have a 08 jeep jk-U and I'm thinking about getting a arb awning. I'm wondering if there is a way to mount it without having a roof rack?

If it's got the soft top on, then you will probably need a roof rack so there is a secure mounting point. If it's the hard top, you could drill into the top and install some mounting points, or if it has the roof rails maybe fab something that attaches to them. I have a LJ and this is the route I was planning on. Then I just bought a Montero instead to use as my camping rig (with awning) and the LJ will be for rock crawling. Actually cost about the same to buy the Montero as to put a roof rack on the LJ...
