Mounting a Battery Inside The Cab. Any real downsides??

Ok

About to install my dual bat system. Going to be running a 60qt Engel and a big power inverter, so i am going with the big daddy Odyssey 2150.

Its damn near impossible to mount this thing under the hood of the 100 series, so i am planning on mounting it inside the vehicle in a custom built drawer system setup in the rearmost cargo area.

Aside from taken up a good chunk of valuable space, anyone have any good reasons why it shouldnt be mounted INSIDE a vehicle??

It will of course, be mounted very securely!

I read in another thread some bats emit gasses, but i think the sealed AGM's like the Odysseys dont.

Any input? Thanks

From what I know, you're good with an sealed AGM batt inside. I've read threads where others have done it. I think DesertDude has one inside his 80.

I believe it needs to be sealed, but also valve regulated. It is my understanding that even "sealed" batteries can emit gases.

You are right archtimb that all batteries, even AGM's emit gas. A good AGM will have a vent of some sort so that it can vent if it receives a catastrophic overcharge, other they will simply build up pressure and split... Just run the vent line through the floor with a small hole.

Put it in it's own container and vent it outside the vehicle. Other than that just take the usual battery precautions.

Just to clarify, I kept the second battery outside. On the 80 series, the second tray bolts right in on the passenger side - my inverter and water heater are on the inside tho :)

I don't know why, but I thought you had one in the back with your sweet drawer system. Sorry.

I had my 2nd battery in the FJ80 mounted to the rear cargo floor in a separate box...worked great!

Aren't the Rover Battery's mounted under the front seats? I think you would have no issue with an in-cab install.

Also some planes have the batteries mounted in the cabin as well...

Pretty much every single one of the comments here I've read is correct from my understanding... Rovers do have their batteries under the seat, a simple little vent takes care of that problem...

When you mount the battery with you're draw system, are you intending to draw its mounted in to open? This could cause risks to the cables insulation being damaged.

OR am I reeading it incorrectly, and you are mearly filling a spare gap around your draw with the battery.

BTW I have 4 optima N70 size sealed batteries in the back of my work troopy.

I two Optimas mounted under the front pas. seat of my truck. BTW, I am not impressed with Optimas but that is another story. While driving in hot weather I have had my Optimas off gas more than once. It kind of smells like rotten eggs, no I am not mistaking it for myself:sombrero: One battery is dead and the other is on it's way out. I think my next purchase will be the Sears Platinum.
