Mounting a small camera.

I'd been meaning to build a camera mount where I could mount a video camera in the Montero. I had done quite a bit of research and found a number of home made solutions as well as commercially available mounts.

On one of the camera forums I am on I found a write-up for a home made mount that seemed quite simple and effective so I built it for the Montero.

Parts required
Qty | Description
2 | 3/4"x3/4"x24" square aluminum tubes ~$10
3 | 1/4x20x1.25" machine screws (had)
2 | 1/4x20x2.5" machine screws (had)
2 | 1/4x20 lock nuts (had)
2 | 1/4x20 wing nuts ~$1
1 | Metal tie down strap (2" x 8" x 1/16") ~$2
1 | Ball Head. I used a Manfrotto Mini Quick Release model ~$25 on ebay.

Assembly Procedure
I drilled 5/16" holes 1" from each end of the aluminum tubes.
I drilled 2 more near the middle of one of the aluminum tubes (where I would mount a part to mount the tripod head to)
I drilled 2 more holes on one end of the tie down strap matching the middle holes in the aluminum tube
I drilled 1 hole on the other end of the tie down strap where I could then mount the ball head.
I assembled everything together making sure to use either lock washers or nyloks where applicable.

One plus is, I can use the same setup in my Gen I Montero as well as my Audi S4.

Total cost for the setup, was less than $50. :Wow1:

How do you all mount your cameras?
