******** Move?

So.... on the verge of purchasing an off road tear drop - but am curious about what you all think and do with regard to parking / camping at trail heads. In CO - most trail heads have very limited parking available. With a teardrop, i'll essentially be taking up two spots. Is that a ******** move, or just the reality of first come, first serve?

If you fit with the trailer and can easily get out, I don't think it's a big deal for day use at a trail head (say while you're out hiking), but I wouldn't overnight camp there. I'd go find some nearby dispersted camping spot or a campground.

And enjoy the tear drop!

No not a ******** move at all. You have a small trailer behind your jeep! Most folks will look at it like WOW that's cool !!! The only ******** move will be some ******** thinking it is:). Rock the teardrop !!!

We'll park at the trailheads but not camp. I try to take up as little space as possible too. Going during the week helps, most times we're there by ourselves.

I live and hike/camp at at trailheads in CO, in the back of my FJ62 though. I would just say it depends on the hike, time of week or season. If its a busy area then I would try not to, but some of the less populated areas go ahead. Im just thinking more like if you are doing an easy 14er probably a lot people and no parking, but you shoot over to a nice 13er and no one is there.

I see people tow their rigs on flatbeds and part them on or near the trail heads while they do out and play on the trail, be it a truck, quad or side-by-side. You can't be nearly as bad a full-size with a float parked there, and especially overnight, there's way less people out on the trail at night, you just don't want them to be in the way, and also beware that you may hear them drive by, or gather by your sleeping area

Overall, no ******** move here. As mentioned there is probably a range acceptability. Park and hike cool. Small popular trailhead I'd camp if I was only sleeping, not "pitching". Big open or rarely used, I camp out of the way and don't look back. Can't speak for Colorado, but here in Oregon, at least for the Cascade trail heads, people bag out in the back of their pickups or Subaru wagons all the time.

Just be ready for lots of questions about how you like it, how it tows, what it's like to be one of the cool kids... etc. :)
Sounds like you are very conscientious, and will do your best to limit the foot print. I sincerely respect, and appreciate that attitude.
Hope the summer is an awesome adventure.
