Hello fellow EXPO members….!!

Long time lurker but don’t post as much as I’d like, but wanted to take a moment and introduce my 2013 Tacoma DC 4x4 TRD Off-Road.
This isn’t my 1st 4x4 nor my 1st Toyota, BUT it’s my 1st Pick Up….!!! The truck is amazing it had 1 mile on the OD when I bought it found this cool, as I’ve never seen a car/truck with 1 mile on it. Trucks got the entune JBL/ Navigation package as well as the TRD Off-Road Package.

Now a question, I really haven’t searched so don’t bash me too much. LOL…!!! The truck didn’t come with the tow package (RANDOM), so question is, adding a tow hitch for VERY occasional towing do I need to worry/do anything in particular since the truck didn’t come with all the extras Toyota puts on the tow package trucks…?

Now, here I am in the delivery lot with the new Taco…!!! (Don’t mind the OE steps, they came off a few hours ago)

Congrats on the purchase. As far as the tow package, I'm not sure what the 2nd gen trucks change on the actual package. On the 01-04, it was the hitch, the fan clutch, wiring, and I think an external transmission cooler. For me, I installed everything except the fan clutch on my truck a few years later, when I had to tow a parts truck.

Someone with a later model should know the answer or try searching "tow package" on here or Tacomaworld.

I would get a trans. cooler first thing if you are going on long drives with heavy loads. If it's an automatic.

got you, cool thanks.

Will do...!

Tow package includes aux oil and trans coolers, hitch and wiring harness.

I won't tow all the time, maybe 1 or 2 times every 2 months or so. Do you think all the extras are needed...?

No on the long drives, max 30-40 miles. I would say small loads with sod and mulch nothing crazy.

That is a NICE truck. I love it. Congrats on the purchase!

Thank you love it...!!!

Yup, that's what I saw. Now can all this be added...? Also, I don't plan on towing a lot. How important is it that I don't have or get this...?

Might be a dumb comment, but make sure to check your window sticker. Maybe it's different for different parts of the country, but I always thought the TRD Off-Road package included the tow package.

Congrats on the truck!

I was looking this up for someone recently and the Toyota website shows that both TRD packages include the V6 tow package:

"V6 Tow Package for Off-Road Package includes Class-IV towing receiver hitch, transmission and supplemental oil coolers, 130-amp alternator, heavy duty battery, 7-pin connector with converter, Trailer-Sway Control (TSC) "

You should be all set up already!

Thank you, unfortunately the only options on my model are the TRD Off Road package, the entune Navigation & Stainless Steel Side Steps.
So no tow package. It's very random, must have been a truck that was built/ordered and the buyer backed out…?

I had been looking for a long time for a TRD/NAV/TOW package truck, but I couldn't find one, so picked this one up.
Really I may tow once or twice a year if at that.
When I do it will be a small load, maybe 900-1500 lbs of sod or mulch maybe some parts for a few tractors I service.
I think I'll be OK with the hitch & wiring harness…?

Thank you,

Hmm...very strange.

Regardless, you should be fine towing that amount of weight without any of the extra tow package equipment. I believe the towing rating without the tow package and using the bumper hitch ball is 3,500 lbs.
