My 5x8 v nose build

Picked up a custom height v nose trailer few months back. Been working on it as I can on weekends. So far I’ve torn it all apart and put 1 1/2” insulation in ramp. Installed 1” insulation in walls and will ceiling also. The windows are shed windows and framed out with 1” sq tubing for support. I installed a 12v roof fan that works amazing.
Still have plans of making cabinets in v nose area, maybe add a parking heater there and A portable ac also.
trailer now is setting on some 15x7 wheels and 30/9.50 tires. Took it for a cruse Sunday and it pulls better than I could have thought. Rocksolid even at higher speeds and rough roads.
Any thoughts and advise is always welcome as the ideas mostly came from here to do this lol. Thank you all.

nice idea to use shed windows. Please discuss the details on how they are fitted. Seems like a good use of money, compared to $$ RV windows or $$$$ "overland" windows

Why do you suppose more people on ExPo do not use shed windows?

Seems like aluminum framed shed windows are available from a few places tempered in the $50 range

shed-parts.com

I assume tempered is perceived to be a safer option. Breaks into small bits rather that many sharp pointy swordshaped bits and slivers. Also able to withstand a greater impact without breaking.

It’s tempered. This is my first build. But I’ve seen several on YouTube use these windows. I’m really interested to see how they hold up to be honest. I did install them and frame out 1” sq framing inside to help support. The only negative I can see if how the framing is together. But I’ve soak the crap out of the trailer before I installed walls and no leaks. Also I have trailer a pretty good test drive. I figured tweaking it bad thru ditches. And crazy high speeds that I wanted it to bust before I used it. Lol. And it didn’t lol. Shed parts is where I got them actually lol. I did add those aluminum drip caps also to maybe help with run off. Time will tell. But so far I’m happy with install. I did have a bad storm come thru the other night of this info helps. I forgot to use wheel chocks after working on it. Trailer ended up getting pushed thru pull thru garage. It then hit the side of garage. Some how there was damage to fender and side trailer wall and scratches on window frames but nothing broken.

Thanks. Did you employ butyl sealant?
Yes sir. And then a bead a 100% silicone around edges of outside. If the silicone ever comes off I’ll use that clear stuff for roofs. Can get at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Lexal I think. Amazing stuff. We use it on restaurant roofs. I also used that butyl tape on new roof fan and then lap sealant on top. I’m sure it will never leak.

The windows are most likely NOT tempered glass. You could get the tempered it would cost a lot more.
agreed, but tempered glass is only needed if you are in the trailer on the road. Once parked a broken window is a broken window. My trailer has residential glass and 4 years later no regrets. And they are BIG windows. Plate Glass set in silicone. Virtually free.
The glass is 1/4" plate glass from a 60 year old house, the kind of sliders with cam locks and no frames.

The tables fold up to cover the glass on the road.

ps, other than the 5x10 deck trailer I already owned. I have spent less than $800 building the "BOX". The big expense, $200 was the translucent roof.

The solar and refrigeration not included, those will add another $800.

There are plenty of ways to save huge dollars and follow or pass guys spending exponentially more dollars.
Focus on travelling, not just building.

My parents old Alaskan had plain old glass in the windows. One was even cracked for the entire 10 yrs we had it lol. Yeah shards are worse than little cubes. But I don’t think broken windows are that big of an issue. Plus if your knowingly going to use it where windows could get hit by debris? A simple cover like Billiebobs or even go high tech with some security film?

Looks great brother. I have a heat system to put in, a Chinese heater lol. Plan on buying a set power fridge. Maybe later add a solar system. Not sure yet as I don’t know how long it will run off massive battery I have. 100amp hr agm. Shall see and go from there. If I do solar. Any suggestions for cost effective build?
Thx crab

I have thought if I get into too much back woods that I might make some wood paneling covers or something to cover windows. Any info on the billiebob covers your talking about?
