As I've noted before, the aftermarket support for the 5th Gen 4Runner is only just now starting to supply items. I couldn't wait for a roof rack and I doubt anyone else will make what I had built by Perkins Performance out of Puyallup, WA.
I wanted it strong enough for me and my wife to stand on so we could take pictures. I wanted to be able to climb out of the sunroof and onto the rack. I wanted it to be able to hold a roof top tent. I wanted it to be able to handle other items and keep them strapped down. Most importantly, I wanted to be able to park it in my garage fully loaded.
And now for the convertible part:
It weighs in at roughly 95 pounds, 75 more than the stock rack and rails, and I still have a full 12 inches of clearnace between the garage door frame and the roof rack floor.
