My first Overland Expedition Vehicle

I prefer social distancing.

This not the exact vehicle, but pretty close.
I believe it was a 1962. Orange with wood paneling and shag carpet. Paid $125 for it in 1975. Lost my virginity to a big girl in it. After that, I knew I would forever be a van guy.

My first "overlanding" rig was a 1977 F100 2WD truck with a Winnebago insulated cap that stuck up about 18 inches above the top of the truck cab on an 8 foot truck bed. I built an air dam in front of the portion that stuck up above the cab which helped out a lot with aerodynamics - but looked a little ghetto. In the back I built a platform at the truck bed rail level with a support in the middle. Storage was made up of milk crates strung together with nylon cord in order to pull them out from under the platform. Low budget and effective - perfect for dirtbag exploration of the desert Southwest, although the two wheel drive part was definitely limiting. It's nice having the perfect rig - but you don't need the perfect rig to get out there! 👍
