My Hawk Reno

Bought this Hawk last fall from an older woman in Watertown, NY. It was a bit of a blessing because it was so close to home and as many of you know it's tough finding a FWC in the east. I was actually ready to go to NC for an eagle and then this one magically popped up. It got it for 2g. It wasn't is great shape but not bad considering. My wife and I used it a bit and then it sat for most of the winter. We took it on one ski trip but we broke a propane line and had to get a hotel. I got that fixed and this spring finally got the time to do some rehab work. I'm a bit of a hack but with the help of a few threads on here I was able to get most of what I wanted done and looking reasonable. I wanted a slide window in the front to access the cab of the truck so I worked with Jeff at ATC, awesome guy. I needed a new door so I called Emmett door who was fantastic and very reasonable. Did the typical screw removal everywhere, sanding and then a mix of spray and brushing on the new paint. Nothing crazy really. I took the corner jacks off as the bolts for those were all loose and not biting anymore. I will replace with corner diamond plate and use some kind of jacks to put it on the truck and leave it. My wife and I are taking the truck and camper on our honeymoon this summer out west to do some mountain biking and sight seeing.

That's it for now. Need to get the corner moulding on and then mount it to the truck. Then a few interior things. New floor and make some storage space under the couch. Might do a new counter if I have the time. Was thinking butcher block. Truck it's going on is a 95 F350 CCLB. I know it's going to look funny as the camper isn't 8' but it will give me some space for my generator and some other crap. Thanks for all the info, this forum is such an awesome resource. More updates in a week or so.

I think your being too modest. Wow, very nice work! Looking forward to your next post.

thanks man. i attribute it to something like a maaco paint job...it looks great from about 6 feet away. the good news is that it is just about ready to be used for what it intended for. it has spent too much time sitting in my driveway just waiting to be used. pretty psyched.

Looks pretty sharp to me, well done! As for the going on an 8' bed, it might be a nifty blessing in disguise.

I'd imagine you'd have it pushed up towards the cab, leaving your extra space by the tailgate. Then you'd not only have the extra storage there, but with the gate down you'd have a sort-of mini porch/deck. Neat!

That's sorta what I was thinking. Push it all the way forward and have some space for stuff. When it was on my T100 I didn't have enough room for stuff as it used the entire bed so now I should have plenty.

Sweet! Looks really nice. I'd love to own a FWC. But I'm in KY and understand how hard they are to find here. So I've got an 8' Jayco. I like it well enough. I too have an older f-350, and am planning to head to Wyoming next summer. So I got some time to get ready and plan it all out. Keep the pics coming. How's the inside? Also, I've really wondered about a shorter camper. There's just no where left to store any gear. I think you'll be really pleased with the space.

Thx Seabass. We will see about storage. Id prefer a Granby or Keystone even or some other full size camper but this is what I found within my budget. That and when I bought it I had a t100 with a 6' bed so it fit flush then. The good news is my truck is a crew cab so I've got storage inside. It's the red one that I posted about in domestics full size a few months back. I will take some pics of the interior of the camper and the finished exterior this weekend. I'm just about there. Awning came yesterday and fan wiring will get sorted then too. Interior is pretty stock. I'm planning on butcher block counter as I had some scrap from my house kitchen remodel but other than that just a new floor and some trim to clean things up.

Excellent work R3D2!! Love seeing the old campers getting restored! :sombrero:

Thanks SLO. Your thread was a huge inspiration actually. I hope to be able to mount it on the old beast this weekend so should have some updates for everyone then.

I remember your thread over in domestic full size. I posted in it several times. Yeah, I'm liking what you got goin there. When I move around from one section of the portal to the another I don't always pay attention to the poster's name. My bad.

All good, Seabass. I haven't updated about the truck in a bit but here are a few pics of the camper. Just about done.

I was able to finally mount my hawk to my rig yesterday. Pretty happy with the end result though I wish I could have got it all the way forward. The camper started to hit the wheel well so I had to back off an inch and leave it where you see it now. I used eye bolts reinforced underneath the bed and some heavy duty galvanized turn buckles in the front and then some smaller aluminum ones for the rear. When we lowered it on the truck it didn't even squat a 1/4". I guess I have some kind of lift and aftermarket leaf springs on further inspection from a buddy...whatever I'll take it. Rig is finally ready to enjoy now. Thanks for all the inspiration and advice from all you guys along the way. I mostly lurked but learned so much just from just reading.
