I finally scored a great FJ40! I have been waiting for a long time for this. Just drove it in to my driveway a matter of minutes ago.

Another pic during daylight. Engine and running gear is great. Looks like I am going to be doing some welding to kill some of the body rust (summertime maybe). Now to mount the winch and find some greasable shackles. other than that it's basically a daily driver.

11 months later I thought I would reply to my original post and show my progress on my rig.
After digging into it when I bought it I realized it was more of a Land Cruiser rescue from the PO. I found lots of bondo and some shady repairs. The PO claimed he knew everything there was about cruisers...not the case. But none the less it has proved to be a great truck. Since having it I have driven it every day and it hasn't let me down.
So far I have installed/repaired (short list) : Shackle reversal, all new suspension bushings, new shackles, removed 9 zillion pounds of bondo and rust (hence diamond-plate)(Please no comments from the anti diamond-plate camp, unless you intend on buying me a new tub), new drive-shafts front and rear, rebuilt the hubs knuckles and bearings, tuned up, all general maintenance with synthetic oils, fixed numerous leaks, installed warn winch from my old truck, replaced every door and body seal there is, rebuilt the aisin carb, added power steering, header and exhaust all high and tight above the frame, added dual batteries, put in a nice stereo , installed LED lights throughout--even dash lights, etc.
Not quite sure how much money and time I have dumped into it. I've got more projects ahead of me but the last thing I will do is give it a paint job.
I sure love driving it and I am glad my wife is still with me thru all the work and dollars I've spent on it..

Very nice!

Two things from your post though...

1. NEVER count the money you've spent;

2. KEEP the wife.
