Hello friends!

I'm searching of my perfect truck.

The main needs:
1. Simplicity of a truck;
2. Durability;
3. Torque;
4. Large space inside:
5. Sure 4x4;
6. 35 tyres fit;
7. Easy to go 1000 km after one fuel filling;
8. Only atmospheriс engine;
9. Easy to find a spare parts;
10. Two winches (or one for front and rear).

That's why I'm thinking about TLC 60.
But in Russia unfortunately hard to find a good one.
99% of them are the metal scrap.

What should I look for in this truck before buying?
Is it possible to make a bed inside?

We have 9 month of cold weather, that's why for me is important to be in warm and dry place, with posobility to sleep inside.
I whant to build a truck for long expeditions.

Looking for your advice friends.
Maybe there is another truck for my needs.

With kind regards, Alex.

Hello friends!

I'm searching of my perfect truck.

The main needs:
1. Simplicity of a truck;

>yea its simple

2. Durability;

>it was... but now they are all old

3. Torque;

>for 1982 235ft/lbs was good. not now

4. Large space inside:

>its a medium size truck, but is a box so its very packable

5. Sure 4x4;

>lockers arnt stock

6. 35 tyres fit;

>Not without modification, which doesnt help the durability. it wasnt designed for the weight of the wheels.

7. Easy to go 1000 km after one fuel filling;

>on a stock tank? not even 630 miles downhill.

8. Only atmospheriс engine;

>take your pick. gas, diesel, or turbo diesel.

9. Easy to find a spare parts;

>its old.

10. Two winches (or one for front and rear).

>move the tire to a carrier, and make a bumper.

That's why I'm thinking about TLC 60.

get a tlc 100 series turbo deisel, a tlc 70, a G wagon, a nissan patrol, at least from the late 90's. you need parts availability.

Sorry, my english is bad.
I mean all engines (petrol, diezel), without turbine.

Your english is way better than my russian. You don't have anything to be sorry about. :)

I understand what you're saying now, but you listed a turbo-diesel as one of your possible choices, and that's probably why Zimm suggested what he did.

Unfortunately the resource of turbuine is about 150 000 - 200 000 km, in the new trucks.
After fixing I guess 100 000 km - maximum.
Also, bad petrol.
:(
That's why I'm looking for a atmospheriс engine (withou turbine).

I know many folks in the developing world curse turbo's but when treated well they are going to help you more than hinder you. Beat on it all the time and they will let you down, I guarantee it! Treat it well and it will certainly do better than 150,000 - 200,000 kms, I guarantee that too! I turbo'd my naturally aspirated 3B in my '82 BJ60 more than 8 years and 300,000 kms ago, I've been all over Central America and Canada/USA with it and I am now in Sierra Leone, West Africa with the same truck. I wouldn't want to be naturally aspirated again.

Here in Sierra Leone I take special precautions which you may also need in Russia. I filter all my fuel before it goes in the tank and there is only one mechanic for my truck and that's me.

On your point #9, the '60 is getting older and parts will be getting more difficult to find.

Perhaps you need a '105 Land Cruiser commonly found in Africa. It has the common 1HZ non-turbo diesel engine and as the engine is still current production parts are easily available.

Thank you man for your quick answer!
Well, 105 is cool, but most of them - are dead.
There are a lot of reasons why.
Normaly no one will sale his 105.
And it's expensive, about 35 000 $.
And any way it's a pig in a poke.
That's why I look at the 60-series.
I'll build it for my targets, with totaly inspection of a mechanic part.
I looked to the 60-th, cause of H2 engine.
In Russia owners of this truck and engine said that 500 000 km is a "running in" for this engine.
:)

i understood the turbo reference, i just disagree with his assessment. its not the weakest link in the motors, so i dont worry about them. besides, they are an easy swap and greatly improve the drive ability of an oil burner. i wouldnt do a diesel without one.

if you literally INTEND to keep the rig for 300,000 miles, the tdi will give you the best roi. but who actually does that?
