Need help to know if that camper can fit my Tacoma

I am the new happy owner of a 2010 Tacoma Double Cab 6' and I am planning to get a light camper to put on it. I am installing this week a Firestone air bag suspension kit and I found a used 7.6' camper (see picture attached).

I am not sure if that's a good idea to have the back of the camper on the tailgate? I am thinking of removing the tailgate as I don't want to damage it on gravel roads but is that a problem to have the camper exceeding the bed by 1.6' without any support?

The weight of the camper is 1146.4 lbs with full bottle of propane,full water, and full fridge. Is that too heavy for a Tacoma equipped with air bag suspensions?

Nice truck & camper, it looks like it will be a good setup.

You should be good with the airbags, you just have to drive easy.

Having that much weight on there definitely changes the handling/cornering characteristics of the truck, as well as taxing on the brakes.

It can be scary in a panic stop situation. My camper weighs about the same. It gets heavier when you load up all your gear for a week long trip.

Coming down a long grade will heat up the brakes fast. Even if you use the gears to help slow the vehicle, you still end up with brake fade. I've had to pull over a few times when coming down mountain passes to let the brakes cool due to brake fade.

Don't be discouraged, I had many great trips with the camper on the truck, and it will handle it fine, even off road, just drive it slow & easy.

I have since mounted it to a trailer. I thought I would switch it back and forth depending on the trip, but since mounting it on the trailer, I haven't looked back. I can take so much more gear, ( firewood, motorcycle, bikes kids toys, etc. ) in the truck bed. It's nice to not have to pack up the camper when you want to go drive the truck somewhere.
