Hi everyone, I recently mounted my Spacekap Diablo to my 6.5' bed but the platform I made has the camper sitting a bit too high to have the typical mounting system that comes with Spacekap. I've resorted to using ratchet straps but I'm aware the factory tie-down points in the corners of the bed aren't the most structurally secure since the bed is aluminum so I'm thinking of DIYing a solution, let me know if this would be possible or if I'm just shooting myself in the foot:
I'm thinking of drilling two holes through my truck bed floor on either side near the cab near the factory tie-down points and mounting d-rings to the frame of my truck. The idea is to drop down the ratchet strap from the Spacekap mounting bracket down through the hole and attach to the d-ring on the frame. I've attached a photo of a d-ring shackle as an example of what amazon offers. Looks like I would probably need to attach longer lag bolts. Would this work?
