Need some help if you have a winch and an ARB!

Alright ladies and germs....

I know there are several of you who are running ARB bull bars with winches. I just got a winch and need some technical assistance.

I read somewhere that the winch needs to be clocked to reposition the clutch from the 12 O'clock position to the 5 O'clock position. Is this correct? If so, how do you do it?

Are there any other pointers that would assist me in mounting my winch?

Thanks again for the help!

Make sure you route your power cables well out of the way of the spool. Just had a cust. come in who managed to wind the power lead into the cable while winching and fried three wiring harnesses and a bunch of fuses in his Taco. Not cheap.

Clocking the winch is actually pretty easy, but must be done very carefully to avoid damaging your winch. Pull out the allen head screws on the end of the drum. Rotate the motor to desired angle (Mine was rotated 40 degrees), and replace screws. Be very careful not to pull the motor very far out of the housing. Keep it to the minimum needed to for rotation.

Just a clarification, it is the gearbox side you are clocking - not the motor side. The clocking is very easy - when you remove all the allen screws, make sure you are holding the three pieces together (the frame, a cylindrical spacer, and the end of the gear box) so they don't fall apart. It isn't a big deal if it does, but if one of the gear carriers falls out, you'll be looking up the manual to see how they go back together. (And cleaning grease off your glasses, ask me how I know). ;)

There are grooves in the gearbox mating surface that help align the gearbox in the new, rotated position, so make sure they are settled in when you start putting the screws back in. And like a wheel, torque them in an alternating star pattern, to make sure you have even pressure all the way around.
