Need your opinion

I have a 97 4Runner, 200k miles, with possible, very small, head gasket leak. I have a friend with a stock 94 LC, cloth interior, no lockers and 166k miles. He has proposed a trade with me. My 4Runner plus $3500 for his LC. The LC is in pretty good shape, never seen more than a fire road. Do you guys think his trade proposal is good? $3500 seems a bit steep to me, but I'd like your opinions.

Thanks!

My first reaction was that 3500 sounds a bit steep. Fix the head gasket then maybe trade straight accross sounds more reasonable.
Consder the fact you can buy an 80 series these days for a few thousand more.
Heres a thought. Fix the 4runner,then sell it. Use that money to buy an 80 with lockers and put the 3500 into other mods.

No way. He could have just as many, if not, more expensive maintenance items coming up. Fix and sell your 4Runner, then buy the LC.

Sounds high to me, IIRC the 94's also have head gasket problems as well as the PHH.

I think you can do better selling the 4runner and shopping around for a clean 80 with lockers.

I counter offered him my 4Runner, plus $2000 (the cost of putting a used engine in once the head gasket leaks) and he didn't think that was enough. I said, thanks, but no thanks.

Looks like I will hang on to the 4Runner for the time being and see what happens to it.

Good job, dude.

That would have been a no-go for me, too.
