First off, this is NOT a JL Wrangler but is a JK Unlimited. I know some people like JLs and others hate them, so this post is only for the JK crowd.
I was browsing through a local Jeep dealer's inventory when I noticed a JK Unlimited with a top that looked a little familiar and a little different than all the other hard tops. Sure enough, it's an Ursa Minor J30 camper:

It's got a few other mods too (bumpers, some ugly wheels, etc.) and it's listed at $48,900, which is insanely overpriced IMHO. However, they do have another nearly stock JKU Rubicon listed at $43,900 here:

I actually went to the dealership, and most of the sales guys didn't really even know what the Ursa Minor was. They also don't really advertise it on their listing/website at all, so a lot of people may not even know that it's there. I checked it out, popped it up, and it appears to be in like new condition - no rips/tears in any doors, no broken zippers, no stains, etc. It also appears to be a fairly stock model (no sliding window upgrades, roof rack mounts, awning mounts from what I can see).
I asked if they'd take $41k for the white JK with the Ursa Minor top on it, and they told me that would be doable. I hadn't even really pushed them hard, but they may take even less. Since an Ursa Minor has a rough value of $7k out the door, I see this as a brand new $34,000 JKU Rubicon with 25 miles and a 7yr/100k certified drivetrain warranty.
Seems like a good base/platform for a couple or small family looking to start an overlanding rig. I haven't found any JLU Rubicons with these miles for anywhere near this price, not to mention with the 7/100k warranty or with a free Ursa Minor attached to it.
These jeeps are technically "preowned" but have no mileage on them. They were owned by another dealer originally, then this dealer bought like 300+ of them and put some ugly mods on them and jacked the price up, so the Carfax is completely clean and doesn't show any sales to a consumer or DMV registrations.
Pros:
- No 6 month wait for an Ursa Minor, enjoy it this spring/summer/fall
- Effectively a $34k (or less) JKU Rubicon with leather heated seats, 25ish miles (I test drove it since the odometer pic was taken)
- Jeep certified - 7yr/100k warranty (not sure when that's good til, but probably equates to at least a 5yr/100k drivetrain warranty)
Cons:
- Technically these Jeeps are "pre-owned" - only owned by another Dealer from what I can see, Carfax doesn't show it ever being "sold" to a consumer
- It's a JKU, not a JLU
- Ursa Minor seems like a fairly basic model, you can't customize it and add options the way you want.
I'd be tempted to buy, but I'm already knee deep in my Tacoma's payments towards a payoff, and trade in value sucks (as usual) and I don't wanna spend the extra $$.
Also, I already asked them if they would sell the Ursa Minor J30 top separately, and they said no. You may have better luck than I do though!
