New cargo trailer project

I have come to respect his community and its opinions. I need a trailer to use for camping and hauling supplies to our vacation spot. It's about 9 hours on the highway with some level b road access at the end. I will be towing this with a stock Landrover lr3. I plan on building the trailer out with solar electric, water, and a few other camping amenities.

I had originally planned on building out an M416, but those are rare.

I recently found this.

Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions.

Dimensions of the trailer and axle type would be useful to know. If you plug key words such as "trailer solar setup", "trailer water storage", and any other specific ideas into the search box on here it will bring up a lot of great ideas as well.

Spring over, matching wheels, electric brakes, Matching paint, Polished top.
change the hitch, bunks, water and electric inside, Looks like a good start.

Was it originally a U-Haul trailer?

I just spoke with the seller, and it's 4x6x4.5

It's got 15" wheels on it, but I don't know what the axel is.

I'm beginning to think this could be a fun project

Famous last words. :)

Unless you need the height (for sleeping), I'd chop the walls down by a half, put a lid + rtt on it.

If you plan on using it as a camper, then it's tall enough to put some side doors in, a vent up top, a window in the back (if it's a barn door, and not a ramp), levelers/stabilizers, side awning etc.

I think I'll leave most of the height for storage, clean it up, add a roof rack, and solar electric system and possibly water.

So much potential!
Pound some dents out strip the paint, a new axle with matching wheels,
That is a cool trailer! I would love to see that aluminum top mirror polished!

Thanks, I am really excited about this project. In thinking about how to move forward I have a few questions for the group

1. Roof top - Can you make a suggestion about how to fit this trailer with a roof rack. I would love to do a basket, boat storage, or RTT.
2. Paint and finish. After I strip the old color off what is a good way to paint an aluminum skin.

3. the trailer has 6 lug hubs on it. Is there any way to quickly determine the capacity of this axel?

Thanks

might just be the pics (and i know you posted the dimensions) but it looks a little narrow to me, and if you raise it to give you more ground clearance. i think id look for a wider axle and build some wider fenders and you can also ad storage (fuel/water cans) to the fenders

See if you can find someone to walnut or soda blast the body to clean aluminum.
I like it, Looks like a vintage U-Haul Trailer They had a reversed sticker on the fender that read:
"Maximum speed 45MPH" You could see it corrected in the rear view mirror.

Today was a busy day. I tried to get the lights working, but I ended up pulling all the lights and wiring out. Unfortunately the new lights don't fit the existing holes. I also pulled the astro turf off and found that the plywood decking is rotten. I guess I will need to do more tearing down before its ready to travel.

Tear down is coming along well. New flooring, tires, and bearings should get me through this summers activities. I just need to get it roadworthy in the next two weeks.
