Defense Mobile is a new company that plans to offer low cost cell phone plans to military families. I'm posting here since many ExPo participants are veterans of military service.
Defense Mobile is a virtual phone company, meaning they don't own cell phone towers and network switches. Instead, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) like Defense Mobile buys a block of data from one of the four major USA carriers (ATT, Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile), and then resells them at attractive prices.
In the case of Defense Mobile, the company purchased a block of voice minutes and data megabytes from Sprint. They plan to resell the minutes as a basic plan starting at $20 a month, up to $60 for the basic family plan. Defense Mobile will offer a range of phones, including top of the line models like Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S.
Signups for Defense Mobile begin on Nov. 11, that's right, on Armistice Day. The company website is

As background, there are more than 40 MVNOs in USA today. Examples of MVNOs include Virgin Mobile, Ting, Straight Talk, and Net10. Here's a partial list that includes the carrier the MNVO buys its minutes from:
