New gauge cluster for my Outback

Superu

Explorer
Finally got around to making a simple gauge pod for the cubby space in the dash of the Superu.

Previously I had a single din 3 gauge bracket in there with a filler piece to close up the gap. I had a spare half hour today so I found a donor DVD case, trimmed it to fit the space, cut out 3 holes and fitted it to the cubby.

The color of the plastic actually matches the dash better than the pics indicate.

Pics are from cell phone, so not the best but you can get the general idea.

Between the 68 degree temps, getting 2 free catalytic converters and a reprogrammed ECM thanks to a recall and finally getting this wrapped up, it's been a really good day! :)

Looking good. Oil pressure looks a little low even for idle. Running really thin oil?

Thanks. It's actually the result of a faulty sender unit. Been flaking out a bit lately. Replacement is on the way. :ylsmoke:

Good, I would hate to see your engine or anyones get bearing damage due to pour oil pressure. I lost my last race engine from it, it didn't like high G load left hand turns.

I've been playing with the idea of installing some gauges in my '01 Forester. It's non turbo so I want to make the install look as clean and factory as possible. Last thing I want is for people to think I'm a rice-boy.

I can't put it in the DIN slots because they're used for my comms, so I'm thinking of a gauge pod that is made for the top of the dash board.

How easy was it to wire it all up?

Wiring was easy. They're all thin enough to snake through a grommet on the firewall near the steering column.

Sorry, I was actually referring to wiring up to the sensors themselves?
Did you have to add any of the sensors or did you just connect to stock ones?

The oil pressure and oil temp use a spin on oil filter sandwich adapter that the sending units connect to.

The voltmeter is a straightforward 3 wire connection.

spin on oil filter sandwich adapter?

Could you elaborate? I'm not familiar with this and if it's something that anyone can add to their truck, I'd be interested in learning more. The gen III Montero doesn't have an OEM oil pressure gauge like the gen II does and I'd like to add it if possible.

Basically you screw it into where the oil filter would go. Then screw the oil filter into the adapter. It sandwiches (hence the name) between the filter and the engine.
