New Ham needs dual band antenna help!

Well, thanks for all the responses. I think most of you hit the nail on the head. I need to set my radio up properly first! I'll be ordering a new antenna today that will get me on the air and then I should be set.

Skip the radio check, thats for CB. the others are ok. Simply
callsign listening on xxxx frequncy will usually do it.

Putting a call out for a radio check is perfectly acceptable on ham. How else are you gonna check your rig? Nothing wrong with asking for a readability check or announcing you are doing an antenna test. There is only so much you can test with a dummy load and eventually you have to key up with a real antenna.

Checking your rig on the air yes, Yelling how about a radio check no.

I have not ran in to a issue with calling for a radio check.?

Just saying it works for me..
