New to the site. Lots of great information out here and happy to be back in the seat of a Mitsubishi!. I'm also happy to say that I recently ended my search for a Mitsubishi Gen 3 Montero!

I Just picked up an 2005 Gen 3 with 97k miles. 2 owner southern car from day 1. I previoulsy had a 2002 XLS. I sold it 2 years ago and have kicked myself ever since. Owned her for 4 yrs and not a single issue
..

After owning both the 3.5 and the 3.8, I'm amazed with the difference in power of the 3.8. It certainly is a big difference. Another noticeable difference is the weight of the 05. It seems to drive a lot heavier than the 02 xls, which i don't think i like, and why it is some 200lbs heavier is beyond me. I like all the bells and whistles that it has though :)

I had been searching for the right gen 3 for the past 6 months. They are getting very hard to find, as most that i looked at had either too many miles and or some type of issue. This 05 isn't perfect, and the color choice wasn't my first, but the miles are right, carfax was squeeky clean, everything works and I got it for $5000.00 out the door.

I just got done replacing all spark plugs, testing all cylinders compression, which all tested perfectly. I also performed the chemical head gasket leak test, as a precautionary measure. Everything has checked out better than expected, so obviously a very happy new owner.

So far I have added a rooftop carrier, installed a Pioneer NEX 5000 DVD/NAV system and replaced the blown subwoofer. I also have ordered a rear ladder and a rear bumper guard. Bumper guard came in today and will be installed over the weekend. Trying to decide on tires...

Very excited to be in a Montero again!

Posting a few pics of the 02 XLS that I no longer own and the 05 LTD

Welcome to the forum! Great looking Gen 3, gosh I wish I found a Viking white Monte with low miles...oh well.

Yeah the 3.8 L is the way to go, this is my 2nd 3.8l Monte. Currently my other car is a 5.6 V8 and IMO the Monte doesn't feel under powered at all, feels perfect for overlanding.

Thanks Fullmonte, and thanks for directing me to this site via your youtube channel. I went ahead and ordered that same rear protection bar that you have. It arrived yesterday, pretty excited to put it on this evening. I ended up getting it for 100.00 delivered, which is an amazing deal considering the packagaing and shipping alone probably costs almost that.

Oh it's you! Welcome again! 100$ is a great deal! I mean the rear bumper won't protect you from rock crawling but it sure saved me some dings!
I want a rear ladder too..

I will provide you as much info as possible about the ladder. The ladder has been discontinued by the mfg and I have spent the past 4 weeks trying to locate one. I located one at a retailer in the UK and honestly i'm not sure if he has anymore or not, i didn't ask. The ladder is 165.00 GBP / approx. $260.00 u.s delivered. i will send you the mfg and retailers info that I have acquired them from. I also have a direct contact at one of the retailers. Will post it later when I get home.

Welcome to the forum man! Awesome rigs! If I hadn't bedlined my cladding we would be twins! I second the ladder on the xls, thats awesome! I wish we could all get one but it sounds like they are hard to get. None the less welcome, and i'm looking forward to you see what you do to your new rig!!

Thanks jhill. I've checked out your build and it looks great and you're very detailed. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm a huge fan of the Montero!

I also plan to either bedline or to paint the lower cladding white. I want the entire truck white.

Before and after rear nurf bar install. Installed Saturday June 6th 2015.

The nurf bar is rather impressive. The manufacturer (Tal and Hadas) makes military grade equipment for the Israelian government, for military trucks and ****... The item was packaged as if it itself was going to war! LoL! In all seriousness, i like the way it looks and the quality and was a 100.00 well spent!

Thanks to FullMonte for the sourcing tip and where to purchase guidance. Much appreciated! Very happy with it.

Gents as promised the ladder info,

The ladder is made by winbo / www.winbo4x4.com

According to the guys at www.direct4x4.co.uk the ladder is discontinued from the manufacture. This was where I ordered my first ladder from, for the XLS. They have no availability and claim that it's been discontinued.

I was able to find a supplier in the UK that had availability. The name of that company is www.4x4at.com and I spoke to Rob there. The price was 165.00gbp + shipping and came to around 250.00 usd. Here is a link to the exact ladder

http://www.4x4at.com/stainless-steel-ladder-501-modification-needed-for-mitsubishi-pajero-56

When i placed my order, they showed only one in stock. I would reach out to Rob and see what the availability might be if you're interested.

The ladder only comes in a polished stainless. I took my previous one and had it black poweder coated and will do the same with the one that I have coming.

The ladder is a direct fit to the 2001-02 and possibly 03 Montero Gen3. The 2005+ that I currently have, will require some modification because of the extra cladding that the rear door has.

I have a guy that will sand blast / then powder coat these for 80 bucks each, let me know if you need his services and I could possibly get a better rate if we have multiples...

We should reach out to this guy about a group buy or perhaps the original manufacturer. I def want one of these now, for half the price of the magical unicorn JAOS ladder I don't see how you could go wrong.
