Given that dB of gain is a ratio, with what are you using as your comparison?
If the shorter MXTA25 is 3dBi (vs the isotropic antenna), or even 3dBd (vs the halfwave dipole) then you have discovered something amazing that allows you to rewrite our understanding of RF physics. I know "all" antenna brands have, shall we say, "creative" advertising when it comes to dB, but still.
That being said, it is nice that you have NMO mount antennas that area already cut to be centered on GMRS. I may have to order one...
