New Tires for the Taco - KM2 vs. Kevlar MT/r

I have a new addition to the family as of last week. :wings: I sold my TJ and got 2001 Tacoma Extra Cab TRD, V6, 4wd, 5spd. with 66K. I plan to use the truck for moderate off roading/daily driving. I need to put new tires on the truck ASAP as the current 265/70/16s are bald.

My plans are to do a mild 1-2" OME lift and run 265/75/16s, ARB front bumper with m8000 and rock sliders. I don't really want regear so I think the 265s would be the best fit.

So....that being said I'm choosing between the KM2s or the Kevlar MT/Rs. I like both and both are approximately the same price. I've run the predecessor tread design of both on other vehicles and been happy with them.

Which tire do you guys think would be the best fit? There seems to be plenty of reviews of the KM2s but not many on the new MT/R, any insight or experience would be great!

Thanks

I think instead of spending money on tires, you should spend it on a for sale sign. You know it's gonna happen anyways.:jump:
Talk to ya this afternoon.

Welcome to the world of reliable 4x4's... It won't crawl as well as your old TJ, but it'll do everyting else alot better.

Personaly I think that the new MT'R's look like a neat tire... But, I think that the KM2's with some siping will be awesome in ALOT of terrain.

I can't speak for the new MTRs or make a comparison. But I can say the current 285/75r16 KM2s I have are the best aggressive tires I have owned yet. They do everything offroad extremely well and surprisingly well on everything else that you wouldn't expect an aggressive MT to do well at. Not to mention they are tough tires and can take a beating! I daily drive my truck with the KM2s, and wear hasn't been as bad as I expected it to be. I rotate them every 3,000 miles and that seems to really help. I have had mine for 12,000 miles now and love them. I personally highly recommend them.

Do you really need MT/Rs? I vote for AT's if you're going to be DD this thing. I have BFG KO's and they're great. I was going to go with 265/75's, but decided on the 235/85's instead. Cheaper, less rolling resistence, and slightly taller.

I have a set of the KM2's in 265/75/16's and they are a terrific tire. I had Toyo Mt's in the same size before and am getting better fuel economy with these BFG's. They are more skinny than the Toyo's , by a half inch on the contact area though. So I'm biased but, go for the BFG's anyway.

Ditto!

I had the BFG MTs in 255/85/16 for almost a year and had little use for them. They are no good in turns, snow, rain, or rock face. They look cool as all get out, but I learned a very expensive lesson.

Now I am back to the 235/85 KO's and could not be happier. If I ever run into sticky deep stuff, I have a set of RUDDs!
