Newbie introduction, and a couple of early questions

Hi folks. I bought the above '04 FG a few days ago from a fellow Expo member, and am now in the process of wrapping my head around this beast. First off, I wanted to introduce myself to the Fuso crowd here. I'm looking forward to taking part in the community, and grateful that this forum exists, as there doesn't seem to be a whole lot elsewhere online. True? Anyway, this is the first diesel vehicle I've owned, so I expect that a bit of a learning curve is at hand. I do consider myself to be reasonably mechanically capable, having previously completely rebuilt my '88 Vanagon from the ground up (seen in the background of the photo above), including engine swap, full suspension overhaul, brakes, cooling system, body work, hightop installation, and interior build out. Lots of knowledge that likely won't directly transfer to a Fuso, of course, but hopefully the Fuso is just a matter of learning a different "language."

I plan to eventually turn this rig into a fully self-contained camper for full-time use, with a much better box on the back. First phase, however, will be getting rid of said box, taking some proactive rust measures on the frame, and just generally making sure everything is solid mechanically before even thinking about building it up into a camper. On that note, a couple of initial questions I have:

1. Does anyone know where I can get the 2004 Owner's Manual? The truck didn't come with one, and the mitfuso.com site only goes back to 2005. I do have the PDF of the service manual already, but it would be nice to also get a PDF of the owner's manual if it even exists.

2. The 2005 manual indicates that the truck should idle between 625 and 675 rpm. I assume it's roughly the same for the '04? If so, I'm seeing more like 850-900 rpm even after it's started to warm up a decent bit:

Any suggestions on what the most obvious cause(s) could be? Maybe a small vacuum leak somewhere? Is there an idle air control valve or some equivalent on these trucks? I haven't been able to find anything in the service manual the suggests there is.

Thank you!
Glenn

Idle is easy. Does it have Aircon and is it on - they are setup with fast idle for this. Turn it off and idle should ease back. Is the hand throttle turned right back. If they aren't the problem than lift the cab and follow to where the cable runs to the fuel injector pump and there will be an adjustable stop on the lever that you can adjust back a bit.

That box on the rear I've all ways reckoned looks like a good setup for a touring Canter. Maybe not ideal to live in full time but you certainly won't get held up on a lot of tracks like a larger box will. It is a lift top that is on it. Send it over here I could use it for sure.

Thanks for the insight. A/C is off, and the throttle volume control is set to auto. Switching to manual and putting on the lowest setting doesn't fix it (it does, however, raise the idle if I turn it up). I'll check that adjustable stop next. Thanks again.

The box is actually pretty rough -- a fair number of cracks, water has gotten in and rotted the wooden spacers around the windows, general moldy smell, etc. It was probably a nice setup for part-time use at one time, but those days are long gone.
