Nikon Import v. USA Domestic models?

We are starting to look at various new Nikon DSLRs and I'm reading over-and-over again about to NOT get the "Import Model" but the "Domestic USA" model. How does one tell? and how long has this delineation been in the Nikon line? (Wondering if our current one is import?).

All help appreciated.

Only reason I see is for warranty issues. No difference between product lines, just importers.

Very hard to tell if gray market (body only), if complete with warranty card very easy.

You can register with Nikon as well (they'll only accept USA serial numbers).

Good luck...:ylsmoke:

DaveinDenver nailed it at the end of his first sentence. Buy from a reputable dealer.

If you stick to places like B&H or Adorama, they will identify an item as gray market or USA version. As to whether or not to buy gray market, it depends on how you want to handle warranty claims.
