I moved this from the Nissan section to this once since a bumper is a bumper until you try to mount it.

So I have a line on a very well built front bumper for my my 2004 Nissan Frontier. Do you think this would make a suitable expo bumper? Please vote above.

The opinions will vary based on each of our priorities. Nevertheless, that bumper is quite similar to Chris's BajaTaco front cow-smasher. Tubular frame work, skid plate, winch mount, and shackle mounts. I voted yes.

The questions to ask: What can be taken away from that bumper? How does this serve my goal? Where are the potential weaknesses? And, ultimately, why does it matter?

It does suit my goals, winch and recovery points. I also would like something to help with animal collisions, I do a lot of night time driving in wooded areas. Oh, and aux lighting options. Far as weaknesses, I cannot really think of anything. Maybe looks, it isnt a beauty. And does it all matter, probably not.

If it works for you then that is all that matters. There is no formula for what makes something Expo or not. It is a mind set and a desire to explore. Our rigs are just tools in the arsenal. It still looks pretty cool in my opinion, you don't see many pre-05 Frontiers with mods anyways. So your rig will be cool no matter what.

I was just wondering if was way out there or something. I think it will work a, nd for 500 bucks, its worth a shot.

Wow, for $500 bucks I would grab it up in a second. The one caution is to be aware of weight. That bumper, winch, lights, a second battery, a compressor, big tires, it all adds up pretty fast. You may not have all those things now, but you may want them in the future. Loaded up for an expedition, you may be pushing either GVW or front axle limit. Nearly all truck stops have scales that will give you both front and rear axle weight as well as GVW. Usually it is less that $10. The peace of mind it will give you is probably worth it. Bob

I know weight will be an issue, I hope to make some of that up by using primarily backpacking weight gear. Stoves, food, bags, clothes etc.

Ah, yes. The budget! I forgot about that part, and it's one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. Not bad for $500.

I'd think that tube would weigh less than a plate/box constructed bumper. Maybe not....? Depends on how tube-high the fabricator was. :)

Good luck

I have met the guy who built this, he is pretty great at what he does. Its all DOM tubing, so you are getting some good strength to weight ratio.
