Nitto Trail Grapplers

I just ordered my next tires, Nitto Trail Grapplers in the 285/70R16 flavor.
Anyone have these? I guess it's a little late for advice but go ahead and tell me what you think if you've got'em.
I'm actually surprised I went with Nitto again after have such poor results with their Terra Grapplers.
I paced in the tire store for seriously an hour trying to decide between the Nitto's or the Goodyear Duratracs.
Obviously I chose the Nitto's and only because: 1. They have a 3 ply sidewall and 2. At least they come with some kind of warranty. BFG and Goodyear won't do that anymore. I hope I chose wisely.

They run very big and wide for their size.

A local here put some on his 08 Tacoma with the same lift I have and it rubbed miserably. And they were very heavy.

Work great on the trail though. Very tough.

A good friend of mine put set on his truck a little over a month ago and he has had nothing but good things to say about them. I think they look great in person and have a nice tread design. I look forward to seeing pics of them on your truck.

I'm curious as to what problems you've had with the Terra Grapplers? I'm running them on my Tundra and have about 20K on them with no issues.

First of all I would say the Terra grapplers would be a fine everyday DD type tire but off road they performed very poorly. In our heavy wet PNW snow they are a miserable dog and with even the slightest incline the don't go anywhere but down. For example on our latest outing we had a Taco with some 265/75 Super Swamper TSL's and another 4runner with BFG AT's. We were all at street pressure and I was they only one who could barely make it back up the road which was not very steep and had about 6 inches of old snow. I actually had to drive in the ditch with my rear diff locked to get out. The others made it out no problem and diffs open.

They also spin more than I like on the rocks and more than the BFG AT's do. And again they only have a 2 ply sidewall, which makes me nervous sometimes.

They probably do better in a more dry snow than they do here in the PNW.
A gambled with them and lost. Now I'm Gambling again.

Well CRAPOLA!! Got a call about an hour ago from the tire shop and the just warned me about this and asked if I was running a stock wheel (I am). Said I'll probably have to run a 1/4-1/2 inch wheel spacer. I can't be dropping anymore cash now for that stuff. So I canceled the order and I guess I roll the dice with the Duratracs. I guess since I haven't gotten through the side wall on these Terra Grapplers I'll probably be ok I hope. I don't run in the rocks too much.
Kinda was wanting to see how 'ol "Buttercup" would have looked with those wicked looking shoes.

I love my Trail Grapplers, and ran 36,000 miles on a set of 33" with never a flat or any sort of issue and about 4,000 miles now on 35"s and also no issue.
And that is running a heavy rig 11,000lbs on all kinds of rocks, sand, mud and snow

I think any 285/75 on a factory wheel will rub, regardless of tire. The wheel offset is the issue and the factory ones have too low of an offset. Wheel spacers or aftermarket wheels (or FJ80's, and I just happen to have a set :sombrero:) are the way to go.

I just went with the 265/75 Duratrac's. The only reason I was going to go with the 285/70's with the Nitto was that had no 265/75's
So I won't be having any issues with rubbing.
For what I do now, I haven't found a need for anything larger anymore.
285's look cool but for me, I don't really need them.
