I am finally performing deferred maintenance on my '01 purchased in 8/15. Whomever was in this thing last was a complete Muppet! Cam seals cocked sideways, missing bolts, etc.
From the start, I attributed the rough idle and excessive LTFT's to the usual suspects, coils, wires, plugs, dirty injectors, ISV, EGR Flow Control, etc. I totally procrastinated doing the TB, WP, etc., all the while replacing all the fiddly bits in the motor. Well mystery solved!
The Bank 1(PS timing) was advanced by 2 teeth, and according to good ole Mitsubishi Doug, my symptoms were spot on.
The best news? 2 teeth advanced will not destroy the valves and I had already fallen I fell in love with this Monty, despite being "who knows how much" down on power! I have been dreading tearing into this thing, lest I found out that I made a huge purchase mistake (bent valves).
Can't wait to see how it drives! Fresh coils, plugs, wires, injectors flow tested, and some mild porting/intake cleanup, new VLA's(Lifters), synthetic driveline fluids, fresh Mitsu SP-III...OH YEAH!
