Northbound from South America

Hi everyone,
I joined here a few months ago to gain advice andleads on a vehicle for driving south america and the day has finally come where we are shed of buses and in our own truck. We have purchased Logan's tundra and camper of panamnotes.com and will be working our way through south america and eventually north back to the states. Hopefully I will meet some other expo members on the road to share stories and advice. In the meantime our blog is www.carlandheathergosouth.wordpress.com although it is infrequently updated as we are too busy having fun.

Carl/Heather,

I think it's an excellent decision to buy the truck and just start driving up! Enjoy the trip, and please give us some updates from time to time!

Congratulation! Hope you guys have a blast.
What kind of paper work was involved to transfer the ownership in Chile? Was it difficult to do?

dinoevo,
We did not do a US official transfer in chile, because the vehicle needs a smog test to reregister in CA. For now the vehicle stays registered as planned no operation under Logan's name in CA and I submit paperwork for the sale upon return to the states. We drew up an agreement that we both signed but were unable to have notarized in Chile, and Logan has my money. This setup requires some trust on both sides, but I have a truck and he has money so the risk level is fairly low.

Also I added a route section to our blog that shows where we went before the purchase and a rough route going forward. Suggestions on where to go or opportunities to meet up are always welcome.

Thanks for your reply. Just wondering how that is going to turn out at border crossings and when you need to insure your truck for certain countries.

Hello!
Right now I'm in Peru, but will be in your neck of the woods in roughly two weeks if you are interested in meeting up. I would certainly be interested in picking your brain about southern Chile and Argentina as it has been a long time since I was there! I'll send a PM with my e-mail.

Officially out of Patagonia and into the lakes district, where hopefully we can dry things out. Apparently pop-up campers and weeks of cold rainy weather are not a good mix, but that said I am worried the rest of the trip will be a letdown after the carretera austral, we were planning a return by bicycle to flyfish our way through the mountains before we even finished.

Argentina looks great in the pics at your blog. Glad to see that you are enjoying The Beast.

Here is hoping to run into you along the way...

Cheers!

We are currently stuck in San Pedro de Atacama. The pass to Bolivia is closed due to snow, anyone have suggestions on a good weather site, or advice on this situation?

Made it across into Bolivia via the SW circuit last week. Highly recommended for awesome scenery but bring your warm clothes, everything in our camper froze including the water tank and fresh veggies, in the below 0F nights, now I need o try and repair the water pump.
We are now settled in Cochabamba, Bolivia for a month or so for some volunteer work and a respite from the road and should update the blog sometime soon.
