Not for USA (yet): Mercedes Vito van

About the same size as a USA minivan, the Mercedes Vito is larger than micro work vans like the Ford Transit Express. With a small Diesel engine, AWD and a 3000 lb cargo capacity, the Vito could be transformed into a nifty adventure travel vehicle.

The Vito will be available as a work van (photo above), a crew van (two rows of seats, windows in sliding side doors) or a passenger van (three rows of seats, six side windows).

Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, said, "We also plan to conquer new markets, such as North and Latin America, with the new Vito. The vehicle will follow in the footsteps of the Sprinter and become our second global model."

Westfalia has been converting Vito vans in Europe for years, with pop top and camping interior. The ones I've seen in Germany were really nice.

The head and tail light clusters are ugly, but the mechanical are laid out in a familiar way and it's big without being huge. Hmmmmm

I'll be keeping an eye on this, though not so much for a camper - I'm actually looking at it for its intended use as a cargo van. I currently run a little Nissan NV200 and its ... not great. It will serve for a couple years, but I'd like something a tab bigger with better economy. (and tires that are actually available in the US!)
With America finally realizing the benefits of the euro style vans, I figure by the time I'm ready to move on there should be several options to choose from.
