NPPower Batteries.

Any thoughts on them? Has anyone tried one?

The 12V 100Ah AGM is $179 on Amazon.

I've ordered one to mount on my XJ to power the refrigerator so I guess I'll be seeing how well they work.

Looks ok for a fridge - but the 15 min rating of only 330 watts is a concern - that seems very low from messing with other similar batteries. It would be fine for a frig but not a winch etc.

This won't be tied into a winch, it will only be tied into the fridge and lighting. Basically smaller, longer loads.

That's a consideration though, I'll have to remember that for the future. At the moment I don't have a winch on this rig, and my Samurai, that has a winch, is too small to tote a fridge. Or a second battery.

That's 330w *per cell* (x6) @ the 15 minute rate (400a load). They are rated to a maximim discharge rate of 800a.

I wouldn't hesitate to run a winch off it.

For a fridge, it's just another 100ah AGM - no worries.

I'm not quite sure that's an AGM. Based on how it's labeled, I'm thinking it's a sealed (valve regulated) lead acid along the lines of those used in UPSs for power backup, etc. Which means it's likely to be either a sealed wet cell or maybe a gel cell. But the price makes me think sealed wet cell.

It came in yesterday and so far looks pretty good.

comptiger5000, I think you are correct. It has a AGM separator, but uses sulfuric acid as an electrolyte. They do make a Gel version of the same battery.

It should still do what I need it to do. I'll just need to keep it upright.

Yeah, it should definitely still do the job just fine. And looking at the spec sheet, it's a fairly lightweight battery for its capacity. Also, it's good to see you over here (presumably for info on Sanford's build). I'm Rslifkin over on GRM if you're wondering.

There are a surprising number of people that populate both boards. This will be going in my XJ for now, but this info will also be used in SanFord as well. He will probably be getting a couple of these and 400 watts of solar on the roof.

Spec sheet says AGM. AGMs are VRLA.

GELs use sulfuric acid with a gelling agent added. They are "lead-acid" batteries. And VRLA.

Huh. That's just surprisingly cheap for an AGM. Most VRLA I know of in that price range are wet cells. But considering the weight and price, that seems like a pretty awesome battery. Only thing to watch for in a vehicle would be the max charge current spec (so letting a big alternator just have at it after a decent discharge might not be a good idea). And you probably wouldn't want to crank an engine from one regularly.
