Obscurotron's Tacoma Gallery - Take 1

OK folks, as promised I put up some pics of my Tacoma, a few of its mods, etc. There are more mods than pictured, but this is a start.

A few things - the teardrop is gone. Stupid me sold it a couple years ago. The truck pulled it well, but it did only so-so on some of the nasty roads I travel. In hindsight a better axle, wheels and tires are all I needed.

The CB antenna mount is something I put together with aluminum bar stock, my vice, a drill, some stainless HW and some blue loctite. It's not perfect, but it's a decent fit and keeps the antenna (mostly) out of harm's way.

The tires are brand new BFM MT KM2's in 235/85 on the stock 16's. Not too noisy on the road, they handle the dirt well thus far and Costco tire center is a bunch of tools.

The rear bumper is a FROR unit. It would not fit over my 2" UHaul receiver, so an angle grinder, cutting wheel, sawzall and a little patience got it to fit. The metal was rattle-canned and it fits like a charm now.

The front is an ARB w/ M8K WARN - no mod to the front mount yet but I'm evaluating plating from the bumper mount back into the frame, rather than dismantling the end caps. What we want here is to stiffen and make a better attachment. End cap mod will do that, but so will plating, think. As I'm NOT a welder or anything, input is helpful and appreciated.

The switches for the KC's and my rear shell light are so-so. They don't match and I need to maybe at least change out the shell/cargo light switch to a decent Contura. The KC switch is a stock Toyota unit. I like the looks, so I think it'll stay.

The 2m/440 radio is just a basic Kenwood with the mount screwed into the center console. I thought it would break off soon, but for a few years it has remained there in good shape (watch it break now!)

The fish - well that's just an example of what I use the truck for. To go find nature's tasty critters and make them table fare. ;) If anyone is interested, the road is a Sage - forget which blank offhand - 3wt that dad built for my birthday last year. If you fish the Sierra's, you need a good 3wt for smaller water and this is it!

Co-pilot. Faithful, if kinda goofy, beagle. He's a good dog!

More later. The work is evolving.

It's a Jeep part! (I'm allowed, I do own a CJ-7, after all. ;) )

I trimmed most of the flat plastic off, then trimmed out 3 of the 4 holes (they don't come pre-cut, which is lame), installed my switches and wiring and then used some Velcro Extreme! to attach it. The velcro makes it easier to get the panel off to work on things, especially since I have at least one more switch to go in there for a rear exterior utility light.

Once it's more or less set and done with decent Contura switches I'll likely attach it with a couple of nuts and bolts and trim it out nicer. If I could find a decent scrapyard Taco, I'd take the kick panel off it, measure, cut, and hot glue it flush and clean it up with some fiberglass and good interior paint for a factory/stock look.

Looks nice. Where did you get the panel that holds the switches under the steering wheel?
