Odd Alarm problem on 2006 LR3

I don't know if this is coincidence or what. I had been having issues with my alarm randomly going off. Typically during the day, this was mostly over the summer. I researched and it commonly is the hood switch giving fit. Knowing this, I did nothing and many times just left the truck un-locked since nothing is in it. The other thing is I usually use a windshield cover to keep the truck cool and protect the dash. Fast forward, I still did nothing moved into fall and winter. I stopped using the windshield cover and was always locking the truck. No false alarms. About a week ago when I parked the truck I found my windshield cover and decided to put it on as we have been getting hot weather. About 4 hours later my alarm goes off. In fact I had about 4 times the alarm go off and I started leaving the truck unlocked again. Then on a hunch I instead took the windshield cover off and left it off and have been locking the truck and have had no false alarms.

It seems when I use the cover the alarm goes off. Can anyone explain why this might be happening. I have no clue.

Fix the hood switch first. It might be just a coincidence with the windshield cover. The hood switch is very easy to repair, just disconnect the hood sensor near the latch and splice the wires together.

Hood switch (located on passenger side). You could just jump the connection with a chunk of wire (or even a paperclip) if you wanted to test that it is the root cause

it was the hood switch on mine -- identical issue

it can also be one or several of your door locks as well -- hopefully not, as more expensive to replace. but most likely the hood.

you'll have a motion sensor in the car too

the windshield cover will move ....through heat or vibration

LR's have lock once and the motion sensor is on

Lock twice in quick succesion and the motion sensor is off.....ie when you leave a dog in the Car....( temporate weather, cold and with window open...)

read your owners manual

Thanks, I didn't think of this. I should probably re-read the owners manual.
