Odyssey PC1700/65 Battery upgrade for 4Runner?

I have done a few searches and think I’ve read most of the posts in favor and against Optimas and Odyssey batteries. For the record I owned an Optima Red Top in my LJ Rubicon but only for a few months and never put it to the test.

The testimonials in favor of Odyssey seem hard to ignore and their choices are many for 4x4 automotive applications. The little PC1200 is probably 'enough' battery but it doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade for me to replace the working stock battery.

The PC1500 is surely a great battery, and the one recommended. But measuring the stock battery and under the hood has me convinced I can fit the PC1700/65 (group 65 size PC1700, 11.9-inches long instead of 13" like the regular PC1700). I will need to extend my cables a bit as the terminals are on the wrong side compared to the stocker, but other than that I believe it will fit.

The specs for this little monster are impressive and I think it should handle lots of winching abuse. The potential negatives are weight and price. It seems to be a $300.00-$350.00 battery deepening on where you look, but after lots of web searching it looks like I can get one for $250-$235.00 delivered. Lots of money, but if it will take a beating and still last several years it could actually be 'cheaper' in the long run. And, performance is worth paying for ☺

My thinking is that I may still want to add a small back-up battery for emergency starting in the future, but maybe with this tank under the hood my Chaser's deep cycle is enough of a back-up? I like the idea of not using valuable space under the hood for a second battery as I want to put a compressor (and who knows what else) in there.

I'm looking at the PC1500, just about ready to pull the trigger. I'll have to look into the PC1700/65.

If you make the 1700 fit, you won't be sorry. I have the huge 2150 reactor grade and just can't say enough good about it. Ranks right beside my BFG AT's on the top mods list.

I installed a PC1700MJT in my 04 v8 4runner. Didn't have to extent the factory cables.

Same Here,

Best battery I ever bought. Has never let me down. I can run my ARB fridge on the 2nd setting for about 4 days before I cant start my car. Waiting on Dirtypats to get the rest of my dual battery setup so I can run a 1200 as well.

This is the battery I was supposed to have a couple weeks ago, but it was shipped to the wrong address; still waiting. It is a new version of the PC1700, a true Group 65 with the tapered bottom for the Ford type hold down. Looking at the picture in the link it looks to me like I might have to extend my cables as the terminals are on the front side of the battery. I'll see when they get here. Putting one in the V8 Runner and two in the F350. They should bolt right in on the Ford.
