Off-road squaredrop frame from a popup camper?

Has any one used or know if a frame from a popup camper frame is strong enough for off-road use? I have a popup camper that either needs to be fixed up or I could strip it and use to start my off-road squaredrop. I've been debating back and forth on building the frame with square tubing or use that camper. Thoughts, opinions?

I'd suggest you start from scratch. Pop up trailer frames are not know to be very stout. Plus you can make what ever you like, not constrained by any dimensions of the pop up frame, axle width, axle position, tongue length ect

I'm not too worried about having to modify the pop up, but had a feeling it may be easier and stronger the other way. Thanks!

I agree with Jwiereng.

Start with a good foundation and the axle system you want. Don't be tied to some second-hand trailer that was built as cheap as possible.

As in Gross Weight... on the label?
Old tent trailers were built to be towed by anything.... even a 240Z or Miata.... so they have incredibly limited capacity.
If you can stay UNDER that weight rating thats 50% of the problem.
Next is use. Most tent trailers were built to be towed on paved highways to "Provincial Parks" "State Campground" etc.
With care lots saw use on the lake shore for fishing expeditions but NO...

No tent trailer frame was built for extended overland, logging road, powerline summits, rock crawling expeditions.
First tell us where you plan to use it but only IF it has the capacity to haul yer stuff.

The label fell off on that trailer before it was mine. I picked it up for $300 a couple years ago because of mice damage to the canvas. I patched it with flex seal tape and has worked well with that. I was just looking at it and thinking could save time and money if I could modify that trailer. I am sure weight wise wouldn't be an issue, just looking to make a 5x8 squaredrop or a 4x6 adventure trailer, but issue would be I would want it to be able to go where ever I wanted to go. Doesn't sound like a good fit, so will get help working on building one. Thanks everyone!
