I finally tracked down an alaskan in the midwest. Not too many around and I did not want to travel 1500 mi. I have been pretty patient and found a 8 ft NCO about 200 mi. away. I bought the camper sight unseen except for a few cell phone pics for $275. The guy says it does not leak and the interior is in good shape. Now for the problem. The guy says that the camper is in the up position and has never put it down . He has no knwledge of the campers and was going to use it as an ice fishing hut. I plan on picking it up with a trailer. I dont know anything really about the hyd. system on the camper so anybody feel freee to chime in with pointers on how to get this down(assume it works) or get it down (assume it does not work). Thanks, I will post pics when I get it. Bob

If you pick it up during the hours Alaskan Campers is open they can help you. I don't think you will have a problem getting it down to move.

Bob,
Congratulations.

The Alasakan is a hydraulic jack. It is located at the drivers side rear corner. You will have to jack it up and pull the pins out of the lift cylinders (don't worry this will be obvious when you look at it).

You can then release the pressure in the jack. Do this slowly. If the camper doesn't come down even you will bind if not bend the lift rods. Just close the valve on the jack and raise it again till it evens out. The back of the camper may need some "assitance" in raising or lowering. I just pull down on the top or push it up. This really is easier than it sounds and Alaskans are very stout so hard to screw up.

OK I got it. I bought it from a guy that bought it from a guy who had it mounted to a utility trailer. When I got there and looked inside the previous owener had screwed 2x2's in thwe corrners and was resting on those in the up position. It was missing the rear brass looking support rod so I assumed that if I detached the 2x2 supports I could potentially bind the system. I did work the jack and it raised the unit a half inch. I think that may be intact. The hyd. line to the missing strut is there and capped. I loaded it on a flatbed I brought. I transpotred it 300 miles in the up position because that was all I could do. Made it home no prob. The camper is in good shape. A little water stain aroun the vent. The woodwork is othewise good shape . It has a stove and fridge, I dont know if it works. It is missing the heater. Exterior is faded. The bottom floor may need replacing and some of the alum. in the front needs some retightening.
What would be that order of restoration ?
Thanks, Bob
