Older FWC in Toyota T100

Hi all,

New to the board and truck campers in general. I have a '97 Toyota T100 with a 6' bed. Found a great deal on a 1980's FWC, but from it's dimensions it looks like it won't fit quite right in the bed. FWC website says the same thing about older FWC's in T100s and Tundras. So here's the problem and potential solution: the bottom is 4' wide, which will fit between the wheel wells in the bed, then it goes up 12" to the next tier, which projects out to 64" wide. My bed is only 60" wide. If I were to build a platform to raise the whole thing 6", that tier would sit out over the bed rails. Has anyone tried this? What are some potential problems of raising the camper? Any solutions to top-heaviness or the gap that is created beneath the part hanging over the cab and the top of the cab? I appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Evan

Evan,

I dont have an exact answer to your question, but I put an older mid-size skamper camper on my superduty. I built a drawer platform under it to raise it up 9" so the cabover part would clear my cab. I then built storage boxes under each side for stabilization. If you would like pictures or specifics, go through my build thread in my sig. It will explain everything in more detail.

With a little "outside the box" thinking and some shop time, I think you'll have no problem. :ylsmoke:
Cheers,

Paul

Thanks SLO. I found out it won't fit quite right. I also emailed FWC and they said it would really unsafe to raise that model that high on my truck. It was just such a great deal I was willing to do just about anything to make it work!
