On the hunt for a mounting diagram for FWC Hawk to my 08' Tundra composite bed.

Hello all,

I must confess I have been lurking a bit up to this point but no more! I am the "new" owner of a 2013 Hawk and an 08 Tundra and am looking for a layout diagram of the mounting plates/eye bolts, etc. I have an email in to FWC so my guess is that it would be in the mounting kit they would send me. I am just curious as to what kind of work it entails and if I can easily get 'er done.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

There it sits, in my driveway, just before the temp plummeted and 5 inches of snow fell.

Not to disrespect this forum, but there are a few threads/posts over on Wander the West about composite bed mounting. I'd start by searching in the Four Wheel Camper section over there. Nice Hawk. Certainly shinier than my old Grandby.

The Toyota Tundra trucks have a normal (metal) truck bed.

Only the smaller Toyota Tacoma (2005 - 2014) trucks have the composite (plastic) truck bed.

Are you looking at maybe a black, one-piece plastic bed liner in the back of your Tundra ?

If so, the plastic bed liner can be removed, and you will have a metal truck bed under that.

Did you get the proper eye bolt measurements and wiring from our service department yet ?

If not, just let me know.

I can gather up some information to make things easier for you.

: )

Welcome to the FWC Family !

unless youve got something super wild and custom going on- Stan is 100% correct. You have a normal sheelmetal bed. same as my 2010 tundra.

Dont know if it will work on your setup, but i have a Happijak tiedown system for the 2nd gen Tundra (2007-2014) avail. for sale. It is only the front mounts that bolt to the frame and allow you to mount tiedowns just outside the bedsides.
pm me if anyone is interested.

Wow, thanks for all of the feedback! I feel like a bit of a putz for not checking back in sooner. I realized quickly that I had a "traditional" full metal bed and drilled the holes this weekend. I did find some info on Wander the West but have yet to figure out how to post on the site. I am a member but, again feeling kind of putz-ish. I pretty much eye-balled the placement of the eye bolts and feel pretty good about the results. I do have a couple of questions, however:

Are the lock nuts sufficient in their ability to withstand prolonged vibration? I am guessing the answer is "yes" but just curious as to what other paranoid owners have done.

Is it recommended that I remove the plastic bed liner or can I leave it in?

And, say I placed the eye bolts a tad out of the reach of the turnbuckles (I have not confirmed this but it may be a possibility). Can I add d rings to bridge the gap, so to speak?

Again, I am grateful for any and all help in this area and thank you for the great info. The maiden voyage of my new toy will be up to Mt. Bachelor on the 28-30th. The airbags arrive on Wednesday and I am just a little excited!

The info I located on Wander the West stated that the eye bolts should be place 6" in front of the mounting brackets on the front of the camper and 6" behind the ones on the back. Also the bolts should be 2-3" wider than the campers brackets. I am within 1-2" of all of these tolerances.

Remove the plastic bed liner. You can't tighten the camper properly with it installed. The turnbuckles will feel tight but the liner compresses as you drive and bump around. That coupled with the plastic being slick causes the camper to shift on top of it. Put in a rubber mat or spray in bed liner.

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering if that would be an issue. As soon as I can wrangle three buddies to help me remove the leer topper, I will pull the plastic liner. I noticed that there was a rubber liner under the plastic so I am in luck in that department at least!
