Mounts For Tents Opening Forward

For those with tents opening forward please explain the different methods and hardware used to secure the ladder to the bull bar. I have a Technitop and have the ladder secured to the front bumper with two split ring hangers and a 4" long bolt that the ladder sleeves over. This is not the best option as I still need to restrain the tent from upward lift. Thanks.

The trick is you really need two people, one on the roof rack opening the tent and the other on the ground ready to grab the half ladder before it puts two dents in your hood. I was going to mount my Hannibal tent so it would open over the hood of my classic but since I am by myself and I can't stand on the hood of my classic without denting the heck out of it, I decided to have it open on the left side of my Range Rover.
Now if you owned a Defender 90 or 110, with those reinforced fenders, you could stand on the fender of the truck and open the tent by yourself.
Below is how I mounted my tent. It is not that hard to open, but if the weather is windy or wet it can get a little scary standing up on the top of the truck.

It is very easy and can be done by one person. I have a technitop, and when ordered to fit to the bull bar, it comes with a 2 piece ladder. I get on the roof rack, open the tent and push it open. The part of the ladder attached to the tent is not long enough to hit the spare mounted on the hood, let alone the hood itself. Then go to the front of the car and attach the lower half of the ladder. The Technitop attachment to the bullbar is a curve that goes around the top of the bullbar tube and a strap that runs around the tube. See pic.

As far as the Eezi Awn on Nathan's old 130, I'm not sure on his opening procedure, but I bet he got on the wings to do it.

I can manage with one person, I deploy mine off of the back. I have a lead tied to the top and the ladder that I pull while using the 2nd and 3rd pieces as a lever to erect the tent. Gravity takes over from there.

The Hannibal ladder is too long for me to attemp that. I would put some nice dents in my hood if I tried. I guess it all comes down to the brand of tent you buy and the the type of vehicle it is mounted to.

I know that you get a different ladder depending on how you want to mount a Technitop. I just assumed that Hannibal and Eezi Awn were the same.

I know the hannibal has the option to do a bumper mount though it wouldnt work with my bumper anyway no top hoop.

I don't know about the other tents on the market but, if you look at the photo of my truck on the previous post, the split in the ladder is right in the middle. I think it is about a little more than 3-feet in lenght.
I am pretty sure with a hacksaw I could shorten it up but, I am a big wuss. I can always change my mind later.

I have a Rovertym bumper with the hoop but I don't think I could control the tent by myself to make it work that way. Maybe if I was a younger man...

opening a roof tent to the front bumper

Try tying a small rope lead to the bottom of the ladder. Take off the cover and toss the rope towards the bumper. Stand on the bumper, and pull the ladder to you with the rope, thus pulling the tent open. Be careful as when the ladder gets close to your hands, it may gather momentum from the weight of the tent. Set the ladder on the bumper and secure.
