Bluntness is appreciated.

Never owned a jeep! But am looking for one to occasionally tow behind my SMB to use daily for scouting around. Other use is for my better half to use as a DD short distances. I seem to migrate to the older TJ/LJ.

She found this on eBay...looks more fashion than function to me...what I know!

So what do you think about this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Unli...0777122?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f0d948622

Any and all opinions are appreciated.

Thanks

I think there are equal parts fashion and function with that vehicle. Its seems pretty expensive for what you are looking for.

My opinion: for what you are wanting to use the jeep for, look for a 10 year old or so stock TJ.

DO NOT BUY THAT JEEP! WAY too much money for the milage and the package, imo.

I just sold a well equipped 2006 Rubicon Unlimited that had every option available and 26k miles on it (A/C, auto tranny, front and rear lockers, rear limited slip, 4.10 axle ratios...,) a roof rack, hard and soft tops, Warn PowerPlant winch, engine and tranny skids front and rear aftermarket bumpers, Old Man Emu 2.5" loft with 3/4" spacers and BFG M/T's with 12k miles on them for less than that. (You respnded to my for sale thread.) Before I listed my Jeep I looked around at other similar Jeeps for sale and my pricing was maybe $500 below typical because I wanted the Jeep sold quickly - which worked, as you know.

Take a look at JeepForum.com's classified section and also JKOwners classified section, there were a couple of LJ's for sale there.

Also, 6" of lift on an LJ requires really substantial modifications to steering and suspension geometry and to the driveline to drive safely and well, and none of the addtional features required to make an LJ 5" or 6" safe, enjoyable and dependable to drive are listed in the add.

Why not something a lot smaller & just as capable (seems like you dont need it to carry lots of gear for scouting)?

Like a newer Suzuki Sidekick / Samurai / Tracker or similar class...

Light weight, still can get a 31-33 inch tire... and cost want be as large... (so money wont be "waisted")

In my opinion, that particular Jeep is not good value. Far overpriced.

Thinking the exact same thing. I would recommend going smaller and lighter. If you look, you can find some really nicely restored and kitted Samurai's out there that will tow very nicely and are a ideal little grocery getter.

Having owned a tj I would say that its a little overpriced. But it may have never been used either. They have never used the winch or they replaced the roller fairlead.

I'd look for a CJ-F for the applications you are talking about. You don't need a TJ for all that, especially if you have a SMB. With the CJ5 you'll get something lighter, reliable, and easy to work on. You'll be able to find a great runner that had a frame-off resto. for under $12k easily, and an original in good condition for +/- $5k

$25k for that "Show LJ" is ridiculous

Heck i'm currently selling my 2008 jeep jk unlimited for less than that and it has 29k miles on it haha. Let me know if you are interested. It's on ebay right now also. With that being said after i get another truck i'm going to get an older tj/lj to start as my project vehicle much like you are saying.

With the 2012 JKs coming out, all dealerships are letting the 2011s go a reduced rates, probably for less than that one on eBay.

That's exactly the reason we tow a Jeep. At a Trail Head can unhitch the Jeep in under a minute and reconnect in about 2 minutes. With our E350 6.0 it's easy to tow, can do 80mph across the Plains States.
Our completely stock 2011 JK Unlimited Rubi is a very capable vehicle. Last month did the Black Bear Pass and other trails near Ouray CO. with no problems. Last year did many of trails in the Maze District of Canyon-land NP.

Thanks for the honesty. I'll try to address some of the replies.

Its 1 owner does not appear to be used off road. I agree it seems more fashion than function. At 6' 3' my legs are a bit to long for a Sámi or CJ5 although still thinking Sámi.

I completely agree its way overpriced. And I dont beleive its been put together correctly (complete).

Last but not least I am kicking myself for not seeing the ones you guys say you just sold. But good on the buyers!

Greatly appreciate all of you taking the time to help me out by replying.

If anyone comes across a TJ or LJ preferably LJ with an automatic trans and in good condition please feel free to knock on my head. It also needs to be kitted up basically turn key, lack of time and space prohibit a project.

Thanks again Expo members.

Hmmmm! 2012's will be out soon................oh how I hate payments. :ylsmoke:
