I went with the Optima Dual Battery setup with a “Painless wiring dual battery toggle switch.” The toggle switch allows the truck to jump start if need be from the aux battery if the starting battery is dead. Then I hooked up an 1100 watt “Power Bright” power inverter to the auxiliary battery. I also hooked up LED lights in the truck bed, and additional dual 12 volt outlets in the bed of the truck to the aux battery.
First I had to move the cruise control out of the way. Then weld up a strong enough battery tray to withstand thousands of miles of bad roads. Paint it up, bolt it on, install the battery.
Once the battery was secure I wired the “Painless wiring dual battery kit” This included a toggle switch, indicator lights, solenoid, and various wiring accessories.
I wired up the “Power Bright 1100 watt inverter” and mounted it behind the passenger seat. When installing you need to be sure the inverter has sufficent airflow and is secured properly.
I also wired up a few accessories in the truck bed. When doing this I used a junction box for all the accessory wires. You can also see the 100 watt inline fuse used for the power inverter.
I setup an additional fuse panel for the accessories, then hooked them up to the aux battery. The fuse panel also has the additional dual 12 volt outlets hooked up to it.
So far this setup Seems to work great. I would have to guess this setup cost me under $800 when all said and done. The two batteries combined costs about $450, the inverter was $80, Painless Wiring kit about $120, then Im guessing around $150 for the lights, shipping costs and wiring accessories.
